Btw Ian, I believe you can put those mega 200 something gb micro sd cards in the new Fiio players. They do tend to work best with the Sandisk variety for some reason. Basically means your entire collection in MP3s that you can carry around in your pocket or a whole bootful of flac albums depending on your preference.

It may just be my ears but I hear a discernable improvement in the Fiio players over ipods/phones. Been crosschecking between em and the sound is much sharper and fuller. The internal dac is far superior plus you effectively get a headphone amp in the mix. My X5 can drive headphones up to 300 ohm. The smaller X1 runs up to 100 ohm I believe.
This means you can rock your AKG 701s and Superluxes in the open without having to deal with an additional amp.
But yeah bottom line: the sound quality is why I love mine. The rest is just icing on the cake.

Is there really such a huge difference in sound quality between mp3 players? Because I'd just get the cheapest Chinese one that takes a big enough SD card.

I just loaded 5000 tracks on my samsung s8 phone with room for another 7500. Don't know whether to go for a 256gb sd card for the phone or get a fiio.

I use an iPad Pro 256GB and wireless headphones. Not exactly the most convenient form factor, but I always carry a tablet anyway so this isn't a problem for me.

The 256GB is now mainly full of music Embarrassed
Soldato of the Pan Head Mafia. We'll make you an offer you can't listen to.

The Fiio was just recommended to replace my ipod classic, apparently it can hold 2 x 128gb sd cards.

Hi Slarti.

These come highly recommended from yours truly:

Both of these brands offer great sound, so if you happen to bump into one of their other players on sale then I'd definitely pull the trigger. Fiio is a tad cheaper in general.

My Zune croaked.  It was my favorite player I had so far.  I started out with a Creative Labs, then I got a Toshiba when it died, then the Zune.  The Zune could hold my whole collection plus videos. I also wonder if it is repairable...

Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...
