Storia di un Minuto
Pawn Hearts
Hamburger Concerto
For Girls Who Grow Plump In The Night
Novella
That’s up to you to decide. For Girls was my first Caravan
experience, and it took me quite some time to warm up to it, but when I
did I became a raving, drooling fan, snatching up any and all Caravan
albums I could find! I never had that experience with Renaissance. I always found them a
mite twee and precious, but for relaxed moments their albums are
essential. |

Try the first, self-titled album (1969) and "Prologue" (1972) by
RENAISSANCE. Their later albums are much softer, much folkier and much more refined, but these two are much more dynamic and electric, with strong post-psychedelic elements. |

I'm right where you are on the musical map, Syntharachnid, just got In The Land of...about a month ago and absolutely love it so now Canterbury prog is high on my wish-list as well. I ordered the self-titled album by Hatfield and the North online but they keep delaying the order, arrrggh! In the meantime, I went and bought Gong's You which is good stuff, bit more on the experimental side. Next week it is record hunting time again and I'm sure to get For Girls Who Grow Plump in the Night by Caravan. Rotter's Club will also end up in my CD shelf if I am lucky enough to find it in one of the record shops here in Helsinki... And to stay on topic: yes, Biggles, you do need to experience Caravan and In The Land of Grey and Pink worked brilliantly for me, at least Edited by Fritha |

Renaissance is definitely not a band you should ignore... at least i
find them more interesting than bands like Yes, Genesis, Camel, Jethro
Tull... Renaissance is more classical and unique which is great...
I would recommend to start with either "Ashes are burning" or "Turn of the Cards" and then Scheherazade. |

I would also recommend "Godbluff" by VdGG, and try RENAISSANCE if you like "sweet" music.

PFM.....Storia di un Minuto (1972) and then Per un Amico (1972) two of the greatest Italian...no progressive rock albums ever made! VdGG.....don't know too much about 'em. From what I've heard, I would recommend H to He, Who am the Only One (1970). Focus.....Hamburger Concerto (1974) SIMPLY AWESOME!! classically inspired, but maintaining rock overtones. Excellent variety of vintage keyboards by the talentedThjis van Leer, and Jan Akkerman's edgy guitar, featuring some great solo's. Rennaisance.....simple - Scheherezade and Other Stories (1975). A journey through the brilliant world of symphonic inspired folk/prog. Annie Haslam has an absolutely beautiful voice. Don't care about Caravan. I wouldn't bother. |

Premiata Forneria Marconi (PFM) - NONE, rur like hell from them... Van der Graaf Generator - Everything you can get. Specially Pawn Hearts and Godbluff. Peter Hammill solo carrer is also great, his best is In Camera. Focus - Moving Waves and Hamburger Concerto. Caravan - In The Land Of Grey And Pink. This is a subliminar message, go to hell, you f**ker! Renaissance - None, this is a very CRAPPY band. This is yours multi-coloured Fantômas... Edited by Fantômas |

I've only just started my journey into the Canterbury Scene, and the only Canterbury album I currently own is Caravan's In the Land of Grey and Pink. Let's just say I plan on buying more Caravan albums, and getting into a lot more Canterbury bands.
