The title track of Close to The Edge eclipses (lol) the entirety of DSotM for me.

Is this a popularity contest? If so, then Madonna is better than Pink Floyd.
Well...now that I think about it I do prefer the conceptual album about maternity called Ray of Light to DSOTM.
Two random guys agreed to shake hands. Just Because. They felt like it, you know. It was an agreement of sorts...a random agreement.

I think that of 500, almost everyone indeed has heard of the band Pink Floyd but a very smaller part could actually say they know some of their music. As for Yes... I guess 25 out of 500 heard of that band, if I don't count the persons I've been influencing in music class
I don't really care anymore though

I would rather think that it's 25 people COUNTING the ones you've been influencing.

Both are good, but I have to go with Dark Side Of The Moon because it has "The Great Gig In The Sky".
He looks at this world and wants it all... so he strikes, like Thunderball!

Both are flawless.  Yet, YES has an slight edge over my pink heart.

Close to the edge is more ambitious in terms of developing a single track. Dark side of the moon is more straightforward, it's still a very good album, but, I'm going to give my vote to Yes

"Close to the Edge", no doubt. But if I had to choose between this one and "Animals" I would have preferred the latter album.

Umm, yeah? Kind of goes without saying. Does anyone actually think that Yes is more popular than Pink Floyd among the general populace?

No not unless they are delusional. Go to your local high school and take a poll. I bet out of 500 students about 495 have at least heard of Pink Floyd. Maybe 100 of them(if we are lucky) have even heard of Yes.

I'm surprised TDSotM has SO many votes in this comparison. Excellent production and innovative importing of ambient sounds aren't enough to overcome massive, I mean MASSIVE advantage in composition. And I guess it should be the most important here.

I'd rather have an extended play with Close to the Edge title track alone than The Dark Side (which is still very important piece of rock music, I'm no hater).

So what you doing in here then? No music than CTTE LOL

All I like is prog related bands beginning late 60's/early 70's. Their music from 1968 - 83 has the composition and sound which will never be beaten. Perfect blend of jazz, classical, folk and rock.
