^^ So, let me get this straight... once, you managed to find a copy of a Marillion album in a small town outside Nottingham, therefore you think that if you bide your time, someone will deposit a moderately obscure, 20 year old Polish Neo album in the same place, when I've just shown you a cheap copy with free postage?

Paul, welcome to the mM prog bargain page... just knock yourself out:

This is the neo-prog top 10:

1. 'Fire in Harmony' - Various
2. 'Silent Dance' - Solstice
3. 'Script for a Jester's Tear' - Marillion
4. 'The Wake' - IQ
5. 'The Sentinel' - Pallas
6. 'The Jewel' - Pendragon
7. 'Fact and Fiction' - Twelfth Night
8. 'Fugazi' - Marillion
9. 'Fire in the Sky' - Quasar
10. 'Tales from the Lush Attic' - IQ

All the rest is froth

Neither Brave nor Marbles are labelled/ tagged as Neo-Prog at RYM.  See: https://rateyourmusic.com/artist/marillion

For Brave:

RYM Rating3.76 5.0 from 1,962 ratings
Ranked#80 for 1994, #2,949 overall
Genres
Descriptors
atmospheric, introspective, male vocals, concept album, lonely, sombre, melodic, nocturnal, rock

For Marbles:

RYM Rating3.80 5.0 from 1,928 ratings
Ranked#21 for 2004, #1,984 overall
Genres
Descriptors
calm, introspective, melancholic, melodic, progressive, atmospheric, male vocals, mellow, concept album, soft, sombre, space, bittersweet, passionate

The Neo-Prog phase at RYM for Marillion is considered to be the 80s one, and I have seen that view echoed at PA as well.

Here is an excerpt from the Neo-Prog description at RYM (see https://rateyourmusic.com/genre/neo-prog/  :

Originally posted by RYM RYM wrote:

Although the original scene died in the late '80s with Fish leaving Marillion and Peter Nicholls leaving IQ, the genre continued an underground following with bands like PendragonArena and Galahad at the forefront, and creating some smaller scenes, like the '90s Polish scene of AbraxasCollage and Quidam. Although Marillion moved further away from neo-prog, IQ continued to make albums in the style, and gained a further cult following after Peter Nicholls returned to the band.

Langley Mill is one of the satellite towns of Nottingham, and Langley Mill Records is where I occasionally buy CD's from when I'm out and about that way. That's where I bought Marillion's Marbles CD from, so it's as good a place as any to look for Neo Prog albums. Smile

I don't mind you disagreeing with me again. It's when we agree on something that I begin to get worried. Tongue

Poland has a really good neo-prog scene, a lot of good stuff, definitely worth exploring.
Djiekuje! I'm just hoping Collage & Satellite both sing in English, as I doubt if there are many people outside of Poland who understand Polish. Smile

Satellite sing in English.
Collage has albums in English and a few in Polish. Moonshine (1994) is a must listen.

He's referring to the English neo-prog scene and I'll have to believe him, but in the late 80-early 90s the scene revived and in the 90s a new wave of bands appeared.
Also neo-prog was not exclusively British, there were bands in other countries as well.

At the time, it didn't feel like an international movement and I don't recall bands from other countries coming in.  Neo-prog was characterised by a DIY, almost post-punk ethic, and only Marillion attained commercial success and were the only band that the wider music public were conscious of.  Pallas were the only other band signed up by a major label.  What came later was a revival, as you point out, which does not seem to be linked to a particular place or movement.

35. Martigan
36. Galleon
37. Illuvatar

I prefer Last.FM's list, mainly because it includes Discipline, Echolyn, The Flower Kings & Spock's Beard amongst Neo Prog bands, even though I'm not a fan of any of those bands. Wacko

From my perspective, Neo Prog is really just another name for a new generation of Symphonic Prog. Big smile

Seems like a reasonable list. Nice to see lots of Pendragon there although I would have expected Love Over Fear to be above some of their other albums.
