I binged the Mandalorian Seasons 1 and 2 before Christmas so that friends and family didn't spoil them for me. As a Star Wars fan, I quite enjoyed this series.

Commercials, how old school. I subscribe to various streaming services with no commercials.
I hardly ever watch commercials. I mostly watch streaming services, and a couple I PVR and skip the commercials (HBO, BBC, Channel 4, Prime, Netflix, Britbox, Showtime, FX and others have put out or shown so much great content for my tastes). A lot of wonderful specialty channels and streaming services without commercials (I'm not that big on typical North American network type TV, and used to favour PBS from the US, just had to endure those telethons). Some of my favourites showing in the last decade have been Fargo, Twin Peaks: the Return, Utopia (the Channel 4 version, not the remake), Les Revenants, The Bridge, Westworld season one, Les Revenants, Black Mirror, Inside No. 9, Chernobyl, The Kingdom, In the Flesh, Misfits (started in 2009), American Gods, The Third Day, and I did love the Good Omens adaptation.... So many more. And I loved the documentary series on Netflix, Wild, Wild Country and various science and nature docs. I have thought of this past decade as a golden age of TV shows. There is now room for so much niche programming, and shows are now being given the kind of acclaim that film held. EDIT: And a big plus is that now there's so much content readily available from around the globe if one subscribes to services. It feels like an overload at times. nd with so many options across the various streaming services I have, it can be overwhelming that there is very much available on demand. And a lot of it won't appeal to me, and at some times I feel like there is nothing I want to watch (or can't find the right thing I'm in the mood for, though that has led to some good surprises). The possibility for more niche programing to fit less mainstream tastes has been one of the big pluses for me, and to watch it all commercial free. If it weren't for eye issues, I might still be reading novels as much as I used to (that used to be my main source of entertainment). Edited by Logan - December 28 2020 at 16:23 |

Hi,
The empty screen. Interesting show with no television, and it helped with the meditations. No lousy imagery to interfere with anything and specifically ... commercials for uneducated and written for folks that ... ohh well ... it's the merry season ... only nice comments! ![]() ![]() |

The Queen's Gambit. Rather enjoyable, and glad I watched it and only 7 episodes. I must admit I got a bit 'chessed' out by the end though. Unlikely to be any further series too.

I recently binged the first (and only so far) season of a Japanese sort of sci-fi thriller live action show based on a manga called Alice in Borderland on Netflix. I look forward to season two.

I've just finished the first and yet only season of Ragnarok (Norway/Denmark). Worth watching, overall. The protagonist is like the mix of a courageous He-Man and a troubled Evan (Ashton Kutcher). I appreciate the blend of modern and ancient cultural elements, as well as the amalgamation of the Nordic and Anglophone/American traits. The pace is not tight, and the characters are not that cautious, but have a better conviction as a result; as befitting the Scandinavian culture. 7/10, so not a bad start at all.

I've only seen the older UK one, but I really enjoyed it. I was going to watch this reboot, but the reviews were pretty poor so passed it over. I would recommend the original though.

Barry Season 2. Still has my interest, but it definitely got darker. Bill Hader and Stephen Root are fabulous.

The new one which I gather is not as good. I wasn't aware it was a re-boot when I started watching it. I may go back and watch the original at some point.

Just finished Utopia Season One. Not sure how I feel about it. Bit messy and overly nasty at times but does raise an interesting question or two. Not bothered if Season Two happens (I guess it won't) but will probably watch it if it does.

yep quite excited by that and watched the first episode on Tuesday (think they have put up 3 so far). It tends to go over my head a bit but I imagine fans of sci-fi that incorporates a bit of pseudo political drama such as Star Trek Deep Space Nine and Babylon Five will no doubt love it. For me its the characters and action so it has something for everyone.

^ I found it took a little time to gain some traction. i think they were trying to build the mystery and intrigue. The second season certainly stepped it up. Just finished the first season of Barry with Bill Hader and Stephen Root. 1/2 hr episodes with a story line along the lines of Grosse Pointe Blank with John Cusack. But darker with black comedy and holy sh*t moments. Worth checking out. Starting Season 2 tonight.

^ Humour on Ancient Rome: Plebs; great show. Especially the first 2 seasons. Recommended. (Though, I watched its first 3 seasons long ago, so not "recent" at all. I've yet to watch its other seasons.)

Just finished 2nd. season of Undercover: ![]() Wonderful Belgian series, of an undercover cop in the ecstasy mob. Beautiful landscapes, two beautiful ladies and a beating plot. I liked best the 1st. season but only because of the tone, for me both are top-notch. Netflix. Inhuman Resources featuring former (great!) soccer player Eric Cantona: ![]() French series; found it very enjoyable. Only 6 chapters on Netflix. Justo Antes de Cristo (Just Before Christ): ![]() Spanish series; an absurd / Monty Python-esque (not that much) take on Imperial Rome, relating the whereabouts of a disgraced noble, Manio Sempronio, on Thrace with general Cneo Valerio Acquila. Loved it. Laughed a lot! Saw it on Movistar. |

Treadstone - Bourne diaspora that shows the beginnings of the secret behavior modification program Jason Bourne emerged from. Not horrible but bromidic, often drags, and is crammed with filler. |
