Conspiracy theories seem to come about because of off the wall thoughts that usually stem from some strange belief that comes from misinterpretation of something else. In the case Logan mentions, someone told the fool that he would get messages from the spirits, and so he dubbed himself a prophet of kookiness.
Religious tomes are another font of misinterpretation. You can make any scripture support any crazy idea you want. A great illustration of how things can be twisted to support anything you want is in the excellent series "Midnight Mass", a show I highly recommend, especially during the Halloween season. 5 years ago, this might have seemed far-fetched, but it's very believable now.

The English footballer David Icke is a quite an interesting and dangerous personality. He believes that lizard people control our world.
"Humanity is actually under the control of dinosaur-like alien reptiles called the Babylon Brotherhood who must consume human blood to maintain their human appearance."

I'll write "my" conspiracy theory out of the thing that will first come into my mind. It'll take seconds, not even a minute. My thought process is commenced, now...
All or most of the monumental figures of history are still alive. Even de deceased ones have been resurrected. Some serve the system, some are being punished with neverending torture. Even Adam and Eve are alive. And, they aren't even ancient, compared to the creatures who are eternal. Thousands of dooms occured, and out of each, hundreds of elites went to the space and are still visiting here. Some that are lost in the darkness of space became huge black eyed aliens.
The above theory of mine was improvisation. Really.

Oh I have a better one, the real reason the left want to stop using oil is they think it's what lubricates the core and the mantle and that once we've used too much the core and mantle will start grinding together until the core stops, and that's why the world is getting hotter now, like a bearing that heats up in an un-oiled wheel. Not long after that gravity will start to disappear and we'll all end up floating off into space.

I can't stand the nonsense of "conspiracy theories". They are all over the internet; maybe these so called "theorists" are actually all aliens from another dimension!  If so, I hope they go back where they came from.

in the time of the internet the most absurd conspiracy theories come up. not just Qanon or voter fraud, there are even more bizarre ones, like for example "penguins don't exist", "koalas don't exist", "birds aren't real", "there is no gravity", "the earth is flat". and they all have followers.
I am thinking about starting my own conspiracy theory - "women don't exist; they are just androids built by NASA". let's see how many followers I will get
