With the thread about the top 50 list made by Ultimate Classic Rock, this thread here may also have new interest.

I don't think that I've already posted a list but if I haven't then:
Basing this list primarily on the number of albums I have and also considering my enjoyment of those albums: 1: Van der Graaf Generator 2: Yes 3: Pink Floyd 4: King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard 5: Magma However, this list is somewhat of a distortion of my taste which is better represented by favourite albums. No, I know how to behave in the restaurant now, I don't tear at the meat with my hands. If I've become a man of the world somehow, that's not necessarily to say I'm a worldly man.

Amos Goldberg (professor of Genocide Studies at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem): Yes, it's genocide. It's so difficult and painful to admit it, but we can no longer avoid this conclusion.

I don't really have an all-time top ten, but I didn't want Can to fall out of the list, so I made one anyway. 1. Can 2. King Crimson 3. Soft Machine
4. Magma 5. Pink Floyd 6. Van der Graaf Generator 7. Kraftwerk 8. The Residents 9. Art Zoyd 10. Gong There's a lot of bands I love just as much. Also considered: Tangerine Dream, Genesis, Camel, Univers Zoyd, GY!BE, Secret Chiefs 3, Swans, Embryo, Popol Vuh, Gentle Giant... |

That's surely a pity, but a thread about favourite countries (The League of Prog Nations ) gives Italy this high ranking: 01. UK (182 points) 02. USA (81 points) 03. Germany (76 points) 04. France (67 points) 05. Italy (66 points) 06. Sweden (58 points) 07. Norway (54 points) Edited by David_D - April 28 2023 at 13:12 |

^ Not a bad final line-up, but it gives me palpitations to see the Cardiacs in the Top 20.

I have to admit, Grumpy, that I like to be fond of and have at least one album from as many of the very appreciated bands as possible, but that's just a matter of personal preferences, even it has some advantages. ![]() Edited by David_D - December 22 2022 at 03:12 |

Something like that has certainly worked over the years for me too, and I have very good experience in various ways with doing it.

Personally I find some albums difficult but interesting enough to stick with. I play them once or twice a year and I either eventually give up on them or they click. When I was in my teens a lot of what I listen to now was too extreme for my palate. My tastes have broadened significantly over the years and I continue to challenge myself. It's just the way it works for me personally.
