Maajun is the 1st incarnation of [1971]Mahjun; the common thread being french multi-instrumentalist jean-louis mahjun. Listening now - very interesting indeed. psyche prog i would say, w. some very twisted, experimental edges, so one might want to edge it towards the RIO cat. - only on track 3 now though - hmmm, world/folk elements.. I would [thus far...] say RIO it is, imho. some def rock in there though. and some definite twisted-ness makes it un-classifiable in any singular genre. generally, any-thing but the kit. sink music w/ rock elements I put in the RIO category myself...

Not quite sure where to put this one, but here sounds good.

Ok Assaf, this one is not quite French but from Montreal Quebec. These are two every good albums, you need to listen to. If you are interested just PM me. Actually listening to Volume 333 right now.

L'INFONIE

< name="TG027CD" ="/bin/basket.pl" method="post"> < name="TG 027CD L'INFONIE L'Infonie (Volume 3) CD $14.00" ="">
Artist: L'INFONIE
Title: L'Infonie (Volume 3)
Label: MUCHO GUSTO (CANADA)
Format: CD
Price: $14.00
Catalog #: TG 027CD
"Loose collective regrouped up to 33 artists from various backgrounds ranging from free jazz, classical, contemporary, rock, visual arts and poetry in one avant-garde adventure still unsurpassed in Quebec. Formed in Montreal in 1967, L'Infonie (lead by composer Walter Boudreau and poet, singer, trumpeter Raoul Duguay) existed officially until 1974. 7 years of pure mayem that gave birth to 'Volume 3' and 3 more releases ('Volume 33', 'Volume 333' and 'Volume 3333'). Released on CD for the 1st time (2 bonus live cuts included)."

< name="TG029CD" ="/bin/basket.pl" method="post"> < name="TG 029CD L'INFONIE Volume 333 2CD $20.00" ="">
Artist: L'INFONIE
Title: Volume 333
Label: MUCHO GUSTO (CANADA)
Format: 2CD
Price: $20.00
Catalog #: TG 029CD
"Volume 333 is the third album by the Montreal collective L'Infonie, and it is considered by many to be their masterpiece. Released in 1972, this surprising, hard to categorize album is a mix of experimental groove, psychedelic jazz-rock and.... classical music, that will appeal to Zappa fans, but also to chamber music audiophiles. An extraordinary listening adventure and a monument of undeground Kébécois rock! Formed in Montreal in 1967, L'Infonie existed officially until 1974. Seven years of pure mayem that gave birth to four vinyls (Volume 3, Volume 33, Volume 333and Volume 3333) as well as various multidisciplinary shows built as way-out happenings with costumes etc...Stunningly remastered two-disc re-release of their classic third album from 1972, Montreal's L'Infonie proves that they were at the forefront of musique concrete and easily above all others that have tried to harness this form of controlled chaos. With their daring and unconventional use of electronics, basses, horns and guitars, a bizarre animated religious storybook fantasy world of madness is created, one where there is no particular story, just an open-ended and humorous comedic soundscape... Volume 333 is experimental decadence at its finest."

I FINALLY received Pataphonie - Le Matin Blanc. So now, I can use it to help the ZART to vote in it and hopefully add it to PA. However, this treat will have to wait until later for me to listen to it. I really need to finish studying first. Then I will treat myself with this Big smile

As there is still no answer with Abus Dangereux, I will start the hunt for Ma Banlieue Flasque now. I only heard it 3 times but already have developed a great liking towards it.

Bring it on, more French stuff.

Well, the Paraphonie should definitely be a nice treat, too bad it has to wait till after the study. It is too bad you are not one for the ol' vinyl as I know Ma Banlieue Flasque it is on ebay at the moment.

I will see what I can dig up in the French scene.

Been listening to a lot of Heldon again recently and it saddens me deeply that no-one gives a sh*t about Richard Pinhas and his singular visionary oeuvre. A lot of lazy journalism is written about the mighty, throbbing Pinhas and his band:

'Oh, it's the French King Crimson' ! being the familiar cry.

As much as I love the Crims Heldon is far more important for me. Besides, Heldon sound nothing like KC. Nothing. I can't even find a similarity with Robert Fripps' and Richard Pinhas' style. If you can join the dots of these two bands I am all ears!

Meanwhile here is a Heldon lovin' UK seminal band by the name of Cabaret Voltaire. Everything up to and including 1982 is essential.

The only ones I heard are Nimal and Begnagrad, both are very good bands which I am glad to have found. Only heard of Mahjun, so am curious to know how it is. The same goess for Marcoeur.

But I am not an LP guy like you all (only was into this as a kid when I used my parents turntable), so I rely on c's and mp3's... Embarrassed

Where do you find these obscurities C ? !

I have an image in my head of you relaxing in your penthouse apartment dressed in little more than leather hot-pants and smudged mascara with a fine claret in one hand and a brown leather whip in the other administering orders to a team of dwarfs to find you the vinyl that will satisfy your every whim.

Marry me ?

^^^ hehe, some nice stuff you picked up there. Hows the Nimal treating you, have been meaning to check out some of their material.

Maajun, Don't know if this one, what is their style?

Also for post-punk, love the artsy side of it; don't know about the rest on here.

One quick question. I keep hearing this new-wave term. What does this entail?
