well, no one expects trolls and a**holes to give ratings to those albums. That's why we have this thread here to stop those who do it.

Too bad you can't block ratings for albums not released yet.

^It seems to have garnered 2 5-star ratings, both from members who mostly give only 1-star or 5-star ratings.

^ Ok., so I was right then. Smile

But you left their ratings for other albums.

I've deleted all reviews and suspended all accounts except one.

These look dubious. The two persons both joined in November, for only one day, to rate the three albums of the same band (all five stars) and penned very enthusiastic revies for the band's last album (as opposed to other reviewers).

The band's fanboys or relatives? Or maybe it's the very same person in both cases?

5 stars This is the best prog album of 2021. No shadow of doubt. It was my birthday gift, and came from Brazil by the hands of my best friend, Rita. The music and the images are dreamy, magic and very rich in beauty and symbolism. My favorite songs are Carnation, Do What You Will, Ars Regia Therion, Br ... (read more)

5 stars Sub Rosa - 11:11 is an awesome double concept album! The music is just fantastic, but a great attention must be given to the booklet and cover design. It's stunning! There's no progressive rock band in the whole world producing albums with such top quality, in our days, except ex-Pink Floyd members ... (read more)

I just want to second what Logan said, that the reviewer needs to state in their written review how the copy was obtained.  Seems like a simple requirement.

To add to that, anyone doing a simple rating on an unreleased album will get a PM (I've sent out a few) and their rating will be removed.  Since there is no written portion on a simple rating, it's just an automatic removal.

It's sort of similar to the book industry. The publisher wants blurbs to print on the dust jacket and advertising and the reviews go through newspapers, magazines, etc., etc. to get the word out to the public prior to release.

We allow reviews for promo copies and the like, but not ratings before release date. We want to feel confident that people have listened to the music. And if reviewing before the release date, it should be stated how the album was received (not a leak, for instance, but through legal means that the people involved in making the album would approve of).

I'm fine with reviews before release date as long as I think (or have no good reason or evidence to think otherwise) it was actually listened to in full, "fairly" reviewed in accordance with guidelines, and legally/ethically obtained.

I don’t see why not, so long as the band or artist don’t mind. Generally speaking, when you get a copy for review you are aware of when the review for it can be published, which is usually a little before the release date. This is the point where the band or artist would like to see reviews published, so I don’t really see why a review cannot be published on PA, so long as it is at or after that date. I can’t say I’ve ever done that, but I can understand why someone might.

I also think it is helpful for people who are wondering about an album before it is released - which is definitely often the case, as seen from many forum discussions about albums prior to release (often asking if anyone has already heard them).

I think rating an album prior to release without an accompanying review is odd, but I definitely don’t have a problem with someone reviewing prior to release. It will always be obvious from the review whether they have actually hear the album, or are merely speculating. Ratings alone are more susceptible to abuse, as it is impossible to ascertain if the person has actually heard the album.
