Hey, I just wanted to let everyone on the team I've stepped down. I will not go into any lenthy explanations, but hopefully I'll still pop my head from time to time. At the moment my lifestyle isn't allowing me to spend time meandering around these terrible slow forums. Take care, Adam

About 90 per cent of the way through the 25 minutes of La Faulx.
I really really, like it, much more than I imagined I would |

Due to popular annoying niggling requests from Patrick and James, I make my foray into RIO today, finally
Univers Zero's Heresie is first up |

Why don't any of these bands come to Australia? I'm going to start my own RIO/Avant movement down under, and only take my festivals to places nobody visits. Europe will get nothing, NOTHING!

I think London is easier to get to in many ways! Besides, yes, you should ask Kim to go! |

Well Bilston is closer to you than London.
Bilston and London are about the same distance from me. Anyhow... I may convince Kim to go with me yet. |

I want to go to one of those London Soft Machine Legacy gigs. Or I could even make it up to The Robin 2 in Bilston.
Wadada Leo Smith would be cool too. Argh... more gigs outside of London, please! Melissa, fancy seeing SML at Bilston? |

Those words don't do the album justice, Pat.
It's one of the best avant-prog albums ever... seriously. It's in my top 5. |

Oooh, I do like Into the Niereka. Not my favourite Dean album (that has to be Ninesense Live at the BBC) but still very good. Chris, you'll also enjoy Organon's Klusterbuckstuckle, which features Dean. 29/9/2002, Organon, The Premises, London, recordings for "Klusterbuckstuckle" CD
released as Klusterbuckstuckle (SLAM 2004 CD) I tend to prefer a full band... rather than just Dean with a double bass and drummer, to be fair. Into the Niereka was rather freeform and I'm still getting into that style. I've just ordered more Dean albums actually, my collection is growing. Edited by James - July 29 2008 at 19:24 |

It really does contain some brilliant improvisation. I should get hold of more of Zorn's free improv work. I really like what i have heard. |

I found the 50th Birthday celebration with Frith to be a nearly unlistenable mess. A few neat ideas, but nothing worth hearing again.
On the other hand, I'm listening to The Bribe right now (the "sequel" to Spillane), and it's blowing my mind. Spillane is probably better, but The Bribe will probably end up in my top ten Zorn albums as well. If you don't know Spillane (not just Syzygy, anyone), get it. Then get The Bribe. |

The Frith/Zorn 50th Birthday album is also a killer. I might have to review some more free improv when I get round to putting my reviewer's hat back on.
Apropos of nothing at all, I'm currently suffering from a dental abcess which is going to need some root canal work in the near future. I've downloaded the 1st Aka Moon album from emusic and I'm thoroughly enjoying it - James, if you don't know them give them a try; if you like Elton Dean albums like Into The Nereika you'll probably like this as well.
I've also been listening to Bob Drake's Little Black Train album, which I think will take a few more listens to absorb properly.

John Zorn's The Art of Memory (with his Frithiness) is awesome!
