Why does Rush have a capital 'R' and Genesis doesn't have a capital 'G'?
I went for Genesis, i prefer there approch to structuring and texture in their music, particularly 'Foxtrot' and 'Selling...'. I love how they incorperate classical and rock ethics but remaining less pretentious than ELP, well i think so anyway. However, I particularly love Rush for the use of conventional heavy metal styles but bringing them to an otherwise unknown (for the time period) sophistication, forefathers of all Prog Metal. Also in the thoroughly underated 80s albums, the mixing of Guitar and Synths was extremely well done, and even though they may superficially have been completely different, you could defnatly tell it was Rush. It is a close one to call, my vote goes to Genesis, because of the similarities with Classical european music, where my primary music taste lies. |

no offence but you may be wrong: http://www.progarchives.com/forum/members.asp
yeah Genesis may have 4 albums in the top 10 but that is flawed itself, and those are their only 4 albums worth listening too, while Rush has a solid discography. Rush wins in the long run but Genesis for 71-74

hahahah...... let me tell you the wrath of Ivan... I remember he misinterpeted a post of mine to say.. that Genesis fans were dope smoking fiends.... micky got the 'wrath of Ivan' hahahha. I believe he was actually foaming at the mouth.... then there was the time I mentioned that Genesis resorted to the costumes and make-up as a cry for attention because they were being characterized as a 'boring' group... oh how the fur flew hahah good times indeed. |

I can't understand how people manages to vote several times, this new system only allows one vote per member but just looking at the numbers is easy to find this poll is flawed, because there are not 273 active members in Prog Archives. Statistically this results are impossible in this forum, Genesis is by far the most popular band, the only one that has 4 albums in the top 10 but still Rush is winning. And no Raffaella won't say anything about your choice, everybody is entitled to his/her taste but you have a warning ........

Rush was one of the two bands along with Dream Theater that opened the doors to the prog world for me I've been a fan for years now. Great Songs, great musicianship and an excellent live performers.
Genesis is also excellent SEBTP is one of my favorite albums in recent years along with Nursery Cryme, Foxtrot and the The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway all good albums.
I like them both a whole lot but I'm afraid to say that my loyalties lie with Rush.

At the risk of being forcibly ejected from the Symph team, I'll vote for Rush. As I've often said before, Genesis is not my favourite among the "big ones". I love Peter Gabriel, but I prefer him solo.

They're two entirely different bands with entirely different agendas.
Genesis went back in time to a sort of medieval sound, and always had an element of dark synicism in it. RUSH went forward in time to a dark and scary future where the human race hadn't rid itself of evils. Genesis had a more folksy/symphonic sound. RUSH had a more psychedelic/metal sound. To compare the two is impossible. They were both revolutionaries in the area of prog-rock and both deserve equal praise. |

Rush and Genesis really arn't comparable.
If forced to choose I would go with Rush, however... |

hahahha thanks for the reminder why I voted previously for Genesis... nothing like sophomoric phiilosophy lessons passed off as high brow deep thinking. |
