I just edited my list to add these ten:
Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso - Same PFM - Storia Di Un Minuto Camel - Same Transatlantic - SMPT:e Pavlov's Dog - Pampered Menial Family - Music In a Doll's House (at least as much of prog as PF's PATGOD) Änglagård - Hybris Anekdoten - Vemod Happy the Man - Same Also, not to be too nitpicky but DOFP was not the first MB album. My favourite prog debut: Supertramp (self titled)
A bit different in style than Crime of the Century. I would call it a bit more 'crimsonesque' |

I guess if you only have one album, and it's killer, that counts.

The first Roxy Music album! Man, just for If There Is Something.....whadda record!
Yes! Man, I dig Peter Banks' sound paired with Bruford's jazzy drumming and Squire's twang.....whadda debut! Weather Report.....spooky first album. Zawinul took that In a Silent Way approach and expanded it.....that LP covers says everything about just how far they expanded! Robert Wyatt's Rock Bottom.....what can you say? Music saved our Robert. Can's Monster Movie.....maybe 'cause I just had it on in the car and You Do Right hit just right. The Mooney LPs are sometimes overlooked.....they're a heart full of soul! ITCOCK, ELP s/t, and TB are peeress as stunning debut albums (IMO) - many artists don't properly get into their stride until around the 3rd or 4th album.

That's not their debut album though. -Here's ten that stand out to me as classics right out of the gate (besides KC). I only include bands that had a recording career of sorts: Magma - Magma/Kobaïa Nektar - Journey to the Centre of the Eye Premiata Forneria Marconi - Storia di un Minuto Weather Report - St Area - Arbeit Macht Frei Captain Beefheart - Safe As Milk Nucleus - Elastic Rock Bo Hansson - Sagan om Ringen Pink Floyd - The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn Gentle Giant - Gentle Giant -I'm sure I could think of many more, but this will do for now. |

Some of the most impressive debut albums (besides KC):
ELO: ELO I Gentle G: GG Moodies: DoFP Mahavishnus: tIMF M Oldfield: TB I'm reluctant to include ELP's, being as they were all established, successful artists by this time. One I would single out would be Camel's debut, especially the remastered CD, which has Pete's 'Homage To The God Of Light' on... 20 mins of fabulous jam... every home should have one. |

Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson
