I think the new black midi is my favorite album of the year so far, but I have not really listened to too many. Maybe this thread can help me find others to listen to!

RANESTRANE Apocalypse Now
BREIDABLIK Alduorka
SILENT TEMPLE Faery Revolution
JONAS LINDBERG & THE OTHER SIDE Miles from Nowhere

As I said in my review, the Weserbergland album makes me proud to be human.

I will need this thread badly, as I feel quite behind on this year musically speaking.

I did search for similar threads before I posted but the search function and my memory failed to produce any results.

From your list, Ian, I’ve not yet listened to the following - which I fully expect to be competing for a place in my list, once I have:

Black Country, New Road
black midi
Deadly Orgome Radiation
5UU's
Join The Din
October Equus
The Smile

[EDIT] I’ve also remembered some more albumsfor my Not in PA list:

Alexisonfire
Fontaines DC
Wet Leg

The closest is this, which is obviously not the same thing. (And which, equally obviously, you know about, since you’ve posted in it.)

But it is interesting to see how I feel now, compared to what I felt were my favourite albums of 2022 last time I posted in the above thread.

For a start one of my top five albums (by OU) of bands not in PA, is now in PA - meaning even if my opinions has not changed overall, I would still need to make some alterations.

Amusingly, last time I posted in the above thread, I mentioned an album still relatively new to me, that I was sure would end up taking a place in my not in PA list. You’d think that would solve the problem of what to replace OU with, except now that band (Pájaro) has also been added to PA! 🤪

I still haven’t heard this year’s black midi or Black Country, New Road, and there is a very good chance that at least black midi will necessitate further changes to how I feel now.

Rather than attempt to work out a new top five, here is a probable top ten (off the top of my head, without checking what else I love from this year):

Top Ten in PA

Daal
Daymoon
Extra Life
Fromuz
Laughing Stock
Mental Fracture
OU
Pájaro
Solace Supplice
Ufomammut

Bubbling Under

Ghost Toast
Long Distance Calling
Mattergy
Plesiosaurio
Riverwood

Top Ten NOT in PA

a-tota-so
Boris
The D/A Method
Flow Collective
GGGOLDDD
Humanotone
Kalandra
MWWB
Shadow Universe
Mario Lino Stancati

Bubbling Under

DI’AUL
Enphin
Narwhale
Nebala
Jo Quail
