This thread is mislabled; it should just be "Your unpopular prog preferences", lol.

Pestilence "Spheres" is one of my favorite tech prog albums, and almost nobody on here, let alone in general, gives a sh*t about that one! I've been obsessed since like 2007 lol.

I love Parliament so much! Tear the Roof Off the Sucker, Flash Light, Mothership Connection, Chocolate City, P-Funk Wants to Get Funked Up, Up for the Down Stroke, One Nation Under a Groove. The synths, the bass, so great! Those 70s albums were so forward looking and so far ahead of their time, people couldn't wrap their heads around them until well into hip-hop and sampling in the 90s/00s.

I read an interview with George Clinton in which he talked about how much he was influenced by Pink Floyd. Parliament is quite sci-fi/Afrofuturist, imagining black people in space and a black president in the White House (see Chocolate City). What seemed science fiction in the 70s was a reality just a few decades later; so cool.

I think they did create a religion, but I also think they created their own brand of music and that is why the masses can't agree (and not that I care they do) on what genre bucket to put them in.

I have been on the Rush train since 1976-77 and I have a one-way ticket, never de-boarding.

was Asia & 80's Yes/Genesis. This is what I had access to at the time.  The first Asia album actually got me to explore 70's Yes & ELP more and later King Crimson.

My love of Rush began on its own via starting to listen to hard rock and of course everything else followed, this was in the early to mid 70's.

I don’t understand embarrassing secrets or guilty pleasures as concepts at all, when it comes to music. Why should anyone else’s opinion matter when it comes to what music I enjoy? Oh yeah, it doesn’t! I like what I like and don’t keep any of it a secret. I’ll never feel guilty for liking something.

(I can think of only one thing that might make someone feel guilty about music, and that is if they enjoyed music by some of the hate-filled racist rants of the neo-nazi metal bands. But chances are, the only people who listen to that music are not the type to feel guilty about doing so.)

1. Tormato is one of my favorite Yes albums. Not my favorite, but OK.
2. I've never understood Rush or warmed up to their music. Same here, with some exceptions.
3. I've never listened to a Zappa album, but for some reason I'm sure I wouldn't like his music. You should at least try.
4. I love everything Steven Wilson releases, including 'The Future Bites.' Every album is at least OK, but some are GREAT.
5. I'm a huge 10CC fan. Don't know... Embarrassed

Maybe the OP should have chosen a different word than "embarrassing". Maybe "untypicallyprog" would be more appropriate.
This is a light hearted thread, so no need for such technically correct BS.
It was a pretty light-hearted post...
Don't scare away new members! We need the new blood so we stop having conversations about PF. Or will that just increase them... hmmmmmm.

Which "albums" are you referring to? There are so many! He's a very prolific musician. And as you may know, he's working pretty much alone, so I find his work impressive. But, I don't like all of his albums equally. When I look at my ratings for studio albums, I've got:
- 9 albums with 2 stars
- 11 albums with 3 stars
- 5 albums with 4 stars
- 2 albums with 5 stars

... and I'm considering myself a big fan of him! Smile
