What about Sleepytime Gorilla Museum? They write songs about math professors. |

Yeah, but they're both praised for it... just Tool's more popular, that's all. ![]() |

I also don't understand why Tool gets praised so much for their use of mathematics. Meshuggah's use of math is much more complex and original IMO. And more of a mindf**k too.

Yeah, I agree Tool's albums are a bit too long. That doesn't prevent them from being fantastic though (except Undertow).

The s/t Daughters release. If you like metal or noise, you definitely need to check it out. |

Lateralus is the closest thing to a masterpiece that Tool has made so far, but it isn't one. I'd say 3.5 stars at best.
Ænima is barely average, and don't get me started on Undertow or 10,000 Days. |

Ænima is damn good, don't get me wrong, but I think the filler on Lateralus is much better.

Don't get me wrong, when Tool is good, they're really good. But it annoys me extremely that they think they have to make albums that are always really f**king long. Because most long albums generally have too much filler IMO. Heck, one of my favorite albums from this year is a mere 28 minutes and has zero filler. Bands that make long albums with too much filler suffer from what I call "The Tool Syndrome".
