I'm just getting into Tool, but for now my decision leans towards Porcupine Tree, as I greatly revere Steven Wilson.

Maynard has Wilson beat in the vocals department (and that is saying ALOT). Porcupine Tree sound more prog, but I belive Tool is far more progressive than them because of the things that they do. Progressive for me is going outside of the box, even if it is the prog box!  Porcupine Tree sound like they are trying to be prog whereas Tool is just doing what they want.

Tool wins hands down.

However just like everyone else I LOVE THEM BOTH. Being a prog fan isnt about fighting about which band is better it is about listening to the best and most varied musical genre in the world. I embrace just about all prog bands because they are different that everything else. It kindof annoys me how some prog fans attack other prog bands because they are so firmly rooted in their favorite, we should be better than that.

sorry about the rant but whatever lol

As much as I love Tool, this is the correct answer.

This poll is stupid, and is not credible on account of the option to vote multiple times.

I'll have to say the same as I did in Opet vs PT, PTs 3 last albums are masterpieces, but I like everything Tool has done. Still both bands are easily in my top 10

Tool!

It's a close one though, but I have to go with Tool.

So Tool fans are voting because Tool is more original and Porcupine Tree tends to sound the same after a while...

Yeh but see which album it comes from. The hugely underated Undertow! I think of all Tools albums that one has the most melodic playing of all by Adam. SW does the grunge stuff equally as good as his Gilmore style riffing. IMO
I love both bands just that when I first joined here, Tool were it for me.
