I saw Gabriel back in 1984 at a Montreal concert, when he still was using make up in his presentations. He was (and still is) magical on stage, the way he uses body expression to conmunicate with the audience is unique and people answered pretty well to that.

As a reference I have an anecdote about that concert I'd like to share. The san Jacinto rythm section was going on as he started singing the part where he says "I Hold the Line" he stood up over a bean of light and as he neeled down he was capturing the light in his right hand. Slowly standing up with the light in his hand he gracefully changed the direction of the light bean up to the sky (as if the light was coming from his hand). Beautiful effect, along with the music of course, at the end as we came out of our hypnotic stage, we figuered he had a little round mirror stuck to the palm of his hand.

I rest my case!!!!

Definitely Gabriel. I mean he wore a dress and the head of a fox... that's gotta be unique.

Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull fanatics are a scary breed)

Jon Anderson (Master of the lyrical anomalies)

Syd Barrett (No explanation required)

Robert Fripp (Mr. Cold Eyes)

Peter Gabriel (I know someone who has been arrested for singing 'Family Snapshot' in public)

Thom Yorke (Sometimes I think he wishes he were in the same category as poor Syd)

Frank Zappa (I was actually considering putting him in the poll on the sole basis that I have NEVER seen a picture of him without that infamous facial hair... but we all know there's more to him than that)
