Somebody earlier in this thread mentioned that a similar poll was made last year. Anybody care to give a link to the thread, I don't seem to be able to track it up myself. Was 2005 the first year such a poll was conducted?

"orthodox prog fans" ... you mean prog snobs?
I think that prog fans should try not to be orthodox.

Oh, you are absolutely right... Let's try not be orthodox people!
But let's stop calling people "orthodox" just because they don't like the almighty piece of art called Dowsing Anemone in Copper Tongue... At least give people a chance... Amybe if they don't like ANYTHING that's not "usual prog", well, call them orthodox, not only because they don't like ONE album, the so-called masterpiece.
Please.

I don't have any problem with the atmosphere of the music being doomy or dark, but yes, I have a huge problem with it being incoherent.

I still can't get into the new Kayo Dot album. To me, it doesn't sound focused at points, especially on the last song. The first and fourth songs were a let down, both started off really well but never seemed to go anywhere, especially the last 13 minutes of __ On Limpid Form (soooo repetitive!). It seems like the band has potential, but it doesn't show enough here.

From that list I prefer The Tangent (I wonder if they aren't better than TFK...) and S. Hackett.

Fonderia - Reenter Harry Miller's Isipingo - Which way now (archival) Hatfield and the North - Hattitude (archival) Zukanican- Horse Republic Lars Danielsson - Melange Bleu No Neck blues band & Embryo - EmbryoNNCK Jakko M. Jakszyk - The bruised romantic glee club Picchio dal Pozzo - Abbiamo tutti i suoi problemi (reissue 2006) Kieran Hebden & Steve Reid - Exchange sessions Vol.2 Phil Miller's In Cahoots - Conspiracy Theories

GREAT to see PRR's The Dark Third in this list!
I bought the album at Blackfield's recent concert in Helmond, NL - and boy, it's WONDERFUL, an absolute masterpiece! This band is going to get real far...

Hmm, I already had the new Steve Hackett, Tool, and Mars Volta albums in my collection. I'm listening to the new Frost album right now, too; it's pretty good so far.
It's a shame that the new Spock's Beard wasn't listed - it's one of their best, IMO. Certainly better than Octane.

I agree with you here. Mindgames' album is definitely best neo album of the year (from what I've heard), as opposed to Milliontown, which is simply "bad album" in my books.

I wouldn't say it was a "bad" album. There are some great moments on it, in fact. Overall, though, it was rather average.
