It fits with the concept. Also the inside drawings are great.

I do not disagree TBH.

It's even worse because the '80s IM albums have such amazing and detailed hand-painted art all from the same artist, who set such a high water mark. Even all the singles had unique paintings!

Awful cover indeed, also not a good album IMO.

This thread has been very fun to read through, and see all the opinions. I think the cover I disagree with the most for being here is the Alphataurus one, but that's subjectivity for ya. I'm also too gay to hate any of the "nude man" covers on principle, but this one is pretty silly I will admit:

I could say the same about Acid Motherhood because of its wacky colors but I do feel like it fits the offbeat (even by Gong standards) music on there. Plus it just seems very 2004, reminding me of visual styles prevalent when I was a little kid.

As for my own contribution, this is prog-adjacent rather than prog but it's still here on PA and I'm very surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet:

Frequency (a masterpiece) was heavily influenced by MO before he left the band, he just didn’t play on it….
Road Of Bones (a masterpiece)
Resistance (not a masterpiece, my least favourite of their albums, and a great disappointment - but it does have a lovely cover!!!)

All IMHO of course🤓

The fecal-like look to the character on the album cover puts me off.

Ectoplasm? The illustrator appears to have drawn inspiration from spiritualists' belief in materialisation, or the appearance of the spirit in a visible human form. This idea is related to the concept of ectoplasm, a viscous substance thought to emerge during a spiritualistic trance and serve as a medium for the manifestation of spirits.

Thanks for explaining, I still don't like the execution. Not a good cover IMO.

Do tell what's so special about it. I must be missing something. EmbarrassedConfused

Can’t explain it really - I have no idea what it means either, but then i don’t really understand what most of IQ’s music is about and they’re my favourite band!!!

But even if you don’t understand it, how is it ugly?!🤔

I don't get it, what's up with that head? Is that supposed to a mouth? Is the head floating? Are there two floating heads? what's going on in there... LOL

My Solid Ground self-titled debut is a well-crafted record with highly energised, adventorous music that is among the best progressive rock releases from Germany in the early 1970s. It features catchy, crazy compositions with menacing, great guitar riffs and obtrusive keys. Don't let the album's ridiculous cover illustration stop you from listening to it Smile
