Love to see VDGG this high, perhaps instead of Prog's Big Six, it should be Big Eight
The Wheel of Time Turns, and Ages come and pass. What was, what will be, and what is, may yet fall under the shadow.

3 years on I would put Big Big Train at No4 now. I'm not sure about my number ten. More a recognition of their consistency between 1970 and 1976 rather than anything else. I don't listen to them much but should rectify that. I absolutely love the first 3 PFM albums but little else they did after that stands up well. I enjoy 70's Pink Floyd like most people but don't care for the psychedelic era (just not a fan of that genre) or the Gilmour years. Could maybe include VDGG in my top ten just for Godbluff but again I don't listen to them much. I would love to include another 'modernish' band in my top ten but just can't think of one I love enough and has released at least 5 decent albums (Wobbler has about 3). Spocks Beard aren't far off , some great albums for sure and reasonably consistent band over a long period.
Three years on, there's nothing I'd change in my original Top 10, despite having listened to another ten thousand albums since then. Smile

It certainly doesn't bother me with ELP, but it's more like Yes, Genesis, KC and PF are The Big Four here. Wink

In each subgroup, alphabetical order (everything can change, but at the moment):

The Greatest:
1) Genesis (Gabriel era)
2) Pink Floyd
3) Yes

A few steps behind:
4) E,L&P
5) Jethro Tull
6) King Crimson
7) Rush

Excellent:
8) Marillion (Fish era)
9) Tool
10) VDGG

Also Excellent:
11) Arena / Camel / Kansas / PFM / Porcupine Tree

Very Good:
12) A lot...

You leave Henry Cow alone, they can have Spocks Beard spot.

Despite JD's best efforts, ELP have not regained their 'Big Six' status.

I shouldn't try and read too much into this but it is interesting to see Tull and Gentle Giant well behind ELP. Nowadays that's not what you expect given that those bands have way more albums in the PA Top 100 and ELP's debut (and only entry) is now only just about clinging on at No 91. Perhaps I will leave the site when it drops out completely (cue a the rash of 1 star reviews Wink )

Not much else to say. No Caravan as already mentioned but also no Big Big Train and Eloy but those would only be my personal choices.
