Eh, roughly & guessingly done. The difficulties come both in the years with too many good songs, but also the years where you've only got one or two 'eh' albums and you go, 'this is what I have to choose from?!'. Apparently I need to go and find some music from the late 80s and early 90s.
1969- King Crimson - Epitaph
1970- Miles Davis - Bitches Brew
1971- Yes - Heart of the Sunrise
1972- Yes - Close to the Edge
1973- Yes - The Revealing Science of God
1974- King Crimson - Starless
1975- Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody
1976- Van der Graaf Generator - Pilgrims
1977- Pink Floyd - Dogs
1978- Arachnoid - La Chamadere
1979- Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb
1980- Yes - Machine Messiah*
1981- King Crimson - Indiscipline
1982- N/A
1983- Pink Floyd - When The Tigers Broke Free
1984- Univers Zero - Presage
1985- Marillion - Blind Curve
1986- N/A
1987- N/A
1988- Cardiacs - A Little Man and a House
1989- N/A
1990- N/A
1991- N/A
1992- Rage Against The Machine - Take the Power Back**
1993- IQ - The Darkest Hour
1994- N/A
1995- King Crimson - One Time
1996- Cardiacs - Dirty Boy
1997- Radiohead - Paranoid Android
1998- N/A
1999- Sigur Ros - Viðrar Vel Til Loftárása
2000- Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Sleep
2001- Muse - Citizen Erased
2002- Sigur Ros - Untitled 8
2003- The Mars Volta - Take The Veil Cerpin Taxt
2004- Sleepytime Gorilla Museum - The Donkey-Headed Adversary of Humanity
2005- The Mars Volta - Cygnus... Vismund Cygnus
2006- The Mars Volta - Viscera Eyes
2007- Omar Rodriguez-Lopez - Jacob Van Lennepkade II
2008- Beardfish - Sleeping in Traffic
2009- Karnivool - Change pt. II
2010- Omar Rodriguez-Lopez - My Horror Is In Park, Drive My Away Troubled Heart (Live)
2011- Beardfish - And The Stone Said: If I Could Speak
2012- The Mars Volta - Dyslexicon
2013- Kayo Dot - The First Matter OR Karnivool - We Are OR Bosnian Rainbows - Mother, Father, Set Us Free***
* I think I like some of the Present tracks from Triskaidekaphobie better than this, but I don't actually know it too well yet, so Machine Messiah it is
** No, it's not prog. If this bothers you, please pretend you saw a track from Hybris, and continue on.
*** Seeing as the year is still in progress, I allowed myself more than one.

Glad to see the good ole Grateful Dead getting a mention here.  If it wasn't for In the Court of the Crimson King, I would've listed Mountains of the Moon as my fave song of 1969 Wink

Grateful Dead are so fun to listen to. I miss seeing the dancing bears around here, though I can't even remember the guy's name who used that avatar.

That's how I feel too, when I listen to the Dead - especially live recordings - I just can't help but smile, smile, smile Smile

Listening to this on Youtube. I like this; i'll add it to my list, since I couldn't find anything from 2012... LOL

I think thats a great choice as it has an amazing concept and incredible musicianship along with the heavy guitar and lead breaks.

Nice oneStar

iamthemorning's "I.B.Too" was my other choice for 2012. Kind of hooked on Big Big Train's stuff at the moment, though.

I don't think I'll do the 70s, since I can't narrow it down and end up with way too much.

1970 - Grateful Dead - Friend of the Devil
1987 - Grateful Dead - Touch of Grey

Glad to see the good ole Grateful Dead getting a mention here.  If it wasn't for In the Court of the Crimson King, I would've listed Mountains of the Moon as my fave song of 1969 Wink

Quite good isn't it? Even the whole album. Good to see I'm not the only one who added it.

Very good album, certainly the best from Maiden that I've got. Admittedly though, my 80's selection is distinctly sparse and the only other studio album I have from 88 is Jane's Addiction's Nothing's Shocking. I was slightly tempted to put Ted, Just Admit It on the list regardless of the complete lack of prog in their music.
Spending more than I should on Prog since 2005
