I'm just trying to look at this through the perspective of key signature and scales. I really like a good B flat and a G. One of my favourite sounding chords is a G6 add9 - kind of obscure, not used too often, but it sounds so rich.

And regarding the poll, having favourite chords and scales is cool, and understandable. But having a favourite note without anything lying either side of it, being just by itself, is a little bit strange. And this is coming from somebody who has perfect pitch. LOL

To sum up: Depends.

I gots perfect pitch too fancy musician person- and I I just like F# brah. Again it's just kinda ingrained in my memory as the "mood for a day" F# is weird but kinda makes sense in a way.

Hey fair enough man. Smile

I didn't know you gots the perfect pitch. Shocked

How can one choose a favorite note? I really don't know what to vote for...

What do they call the notes "between" the standard Western notes, say, the 1/4 tones used in Eastern scales?  Do they use similar terminology as "sharp" and "flat" and so on?

Well, I think that the 19 TET (19 tone equal temperament) scale is: A, A#, Bb, B, B#,Cb, C, C#, Db, D, D#, Eb, E, E#, Fb, F, F#, Gb, Ab :

So the notes that would usually be slashed (e.g. D#/Eb) will become separate notes by themselves, as well as C's and F's having flats and B's and E's having sharps.

Mind-f**king sh*t to hear when played. LOL
Very cool, thanks. I know a guitarist named Neil Haverstick that has custom built guitars that have 19 semitones to the octave, and even one that has 34.  Very strange sounding at first, but once you get used to it it's very nice.

I plan on getting a 19 tone guitar at some stage.

Eventually when I start using it it's going to be fun. Then I'll only have to use 4 actual normal notes. Our ears won't be trained to hear them so it will cause tons of problems and be awesome.

woah that'll be so f**king weird

I know what microtones are.  I just wondered what nomenclature the Indian people (for example) use to describe that note that sits somewhere between our C and our C#.

Turns out they have a completely different naming system for notes (ok, I looked it up after all), so they don't call it "C" or "C#" at all anyway.

microtones, I think
Right, but what about the individual notes (A, B, C#, C+, D minus, what?)

I don't understand.

There are major notes, A B C D E F and G. There are also minor notes in between those major notes, A#/Bb C#/Db D#/Eb F#/Gb and G#/Ab. Between every note, both major and minor, there are a serise of microtones. That's really all there is.

I hate all of the notes equally. They only sound good if more than one note is being played, or if they are played in a sequence. And then, the notes played don't matter, it's more about the organizations and structures of those notes.
