Still, it only suggests... it never actually does the deed. Which is actually even more unnerving.

I think the smiley itself looks condescending even though I know most people don't mean it that way, I usually use ;) instead of it.

Makes one pause for thought. I have been offending about half the people here regularly for seven years and I didn't even know it. And maybe those people have been deliberately trying to offend me in return and I never noticed.

So it looks like about half the people take offense to it, and the other half don't. Great.

In the olden days like the time I connected the network over to Shelbyville. I needed a new heel for my shoe, so, I decided to connect to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to dial-up the internet cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on 'em. Give me five bees for a quarter, you'd say, but when the network was connected you couldn't be sure you were connected to Morganville so you see, back in those days, rich men would ride around in Zeppelins, dropping coins on people, and one day I seen J.D. Rockefeller flying by. So I run of the house with a big tin washtub and catch the mint-condition 1918 liberty-head silver dollars and they would make a noise as they hit the tin washtub, 'ping' they would go, like siver dollars dropping from Zeppelins into tin washtubs 'til Superman challenged FDR to a race around the world. FDR beat him by a furlong, or so the comic books would have you believe. The truth lies somewhere in between. |

This.
Seriously, I've never thought the wink was condescending. I try to use it when I'm making a joke or clever statement to make sure people don't think I'm serious. I might use it in a teasing way, or just to emphasize that I'm joking so I don't look stupid, but I try not to use it as a "cover up" for a comment that's condescending.

Oh yeah, it's arrogant and condescending for sure. Though I reckon it's the context it's used in...could also be seductive I still have no idea what this sh*t is though
