Why doesn't he take his "large backlog of musical ideas" and run with them with PT? Well, either way, he's still going to be making music... I will just view his solo stuff as Porcupine Tree 2.0.

For me it is a good decision, actually I think The Incident is a quite  weak album. Better to take some time and return with a killer.

Why would it be an April Fool's joke if it was recorded earlier, and is being aired in 5 days?

Hmm, not sure how I feel about this one.  While I truly love PT, been a fan for a very, very long time, I too am enjoying his solo stuff, Grace for Drowning was an extremely refreshing change to PT.  I just wish he kept Gavin for the solo stuff!

He's talking abour a hiatus. It just means he wants to put the band on pause for a while. Not exactly the end of PT.

Bad move.  The solo stuff is far less dynamic and enjoyable imo.  The other guys in the band add so much.  Even the Incident is much more exciting to me than Grace, which I find quite the snore.  Hopefully it is a joke.

Why not ? I would totally understand that MR. Wilson, after 30 years in a band and given his personality, would like to go somewhere else ... Too bad they didn't give us something better than The Incident as a swansong if this announcement is to go through =\

It would be great if the most overrated band would split up, but I'm afraid it's an April Fool.

APRIL FOOL EVERYONE...

Here's a brief extract of an interview with Steven Wilson to be aired on Planet Rock Radio on April 6th
"In essence, Porcupine Tree has probably run its course, I believe the band have reached a peak both musically and commercially and with my own change in musical direction, it would seem to me to be the appropriate time to put the band on a hiatus. I've enjoyed the extra freedom of being a solo artist and how it allows me to be more diverse than within the context of a band. I'm sure the band will appear again in some form, but not in the foreseeable future, I have a large backlog of musical ideas, I would like to see them come to fruition outside a band context, I trust most Porcupine Tree fans will see the greater picture and look forward to these exciting projects"
