'ello 'ello 'ello!
Just letting you guys know that a digital version of our album is now half price ($6) from our bandcamp! If you're feeling like some more Aussie prog, now's the time to get it!

It would be the ultimate dream for bands such as A LONELY CROWD, PIRATE, BREAKING ORBIT, XENOGRAFT etc to be invited to "tour" internationally, which was suggested in a previous post- unfortunately most are unsigned, self managed and self funded and dont have the overseas contacts to assist with these matters- that being said I'm convinced that any of these bands (and many others) would blow people away at any of the Prog festivals in Europe, Japan or USA. They aren't just unique- they are also very accomplished and professional. They only need a foot in the door- so haha whose gonna organise that tour?

Just a casual and friendly bump. Thanks Conor for the review, and if anyone else would like to have a listen and look that'd be fantastic. I'm heading off to India for just under a month next week, so trying to get as much promotion as I can to last us through the hiatus.

Indeed, Bird's Robe is just spectacular. Heavy has a few bands beeing eval'ed from them right now.

Apparently you do! ![]() Of course if you're not into the whole "modern" heavy prog (more post-punk or post-hardcore or metal based), perhaps these gems are not for you. ![]() Here's a sampler to get your feet wet:

Check here for many good Australian Progressive Rock. Or at least the three I know (Anubis, Pirate, sleepmakeswaves): Bird's Robe Records.
Actually, I suppose I'm just assuming they are all Australian bands. But I know those three are. Oh! And not on BRR, but Tangled Thoughts of Leaving! Edited by infocat - January 26 2012 at 23:37 |

Yeah it's more the fact that if you aren't straight ahead pop or rock and you're from Australia you really have to dig deep to get noticed. So I'm happy bands like Cog and Karnivool get noticed as it means there is a bit of a chance, although I honestly hadn't heard of the rest of those bands. Maybe some tours are in order...

I'm genuinely surprised (and pleased) at this. Pity I've never heard of any of these bands though - I need to look a little harder don't I? ![]() |

Agreed, Australian prog is just about everywhere, especially in the Heavy Prog category. Karnivool, Arcane, A Lonely Crowd, Pirate, Breaking Orbit, The Death Cobra, Squat Club, and of course Montresor are just a few HP bands from AU that come off the top of my head.

I'm actually very happy with the mix/production so of course it'd be preferable to hear them at a higher quality, but then even the streaming PA songs are uploaded at 128. Should I listen to them and then decide to review the band? I see the point though. If you're genuinely going to make a thorough review and not just a few sentences (which I'm also completely happy with, btw) then let me know and I can make a temporary link for a 320 rip or something.

A question for you and others in a similar position.
Are you happy for reviews to be based on low quality streaming?

I do have a few "promo" copies of the album - i.e. the CD printed but in a paper sleeve as opposed to the digipack. Otherwise I'd use the streaming method on bandcamp, or buy the digipack version if you think you're going to dig it. The reason being that I am in no way making a profit on this; Recording, mastering etc set me back about $4k, and I only made 150 CDs that I'm charging $12AU for...you do the math :P
But I'm happy to send you a promo one if you PM me your details.

Post-black metal is my speciality! ;-)
Are you offering physical copies for review, or just the bandcamp? Cheers, C

Hey guys! Andy just added my band's debut album up on PA here: http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=7059
Being entirely self-funded and a year in the making, it'd be excellent to get some of your opinions on it. It explores the heaviness of post-black metal bands like Alcest as well as later King Crimson, but isn't afraid to go into lighter territory such as the flamenco section of ...To The Cosmos or the funk of Bertrand Russell.
![]() The entire album is able to be preordered (on CD or as a digital download) and/or streamed for free in it's entirety on our bandcamp: http://montresor.bandcamp.com
