To me, Camel will always be premier league. Their music just makes me feel good.
To be fair though, certain albums have lacked consistancy. ie. Stationary Traveller. It still has some great songs though. My favourites are,  Moonmadness, Rajaz, A Nod And A Wink, Breathless and The Paris Collection, but, to be honest i'm just Camel daft. Big%20smile

Maybe more like Newcastle United.  Constistently in Premier, finishing up in the top half of the table every year, but they have their ups and downs.

Camel are like Sunderland FC - a talented band, who occasionally get promoted to the Premiership, then slide back down again. Very good, but not able to sustain their progress. I agree that a better vocalist would have improved their ranking though. Also some slightly better songwriting skills...

I'm going to say 1st division. They really are a great band but, as already has been said would have benefited from a good singer. But perhaps they may have had less instrumental passages if that was the case so maybe a blessing in disguise.

1st division and if they had had a better vocalist they would have definitely been in Premier League...

Logically, 2nd or 3rd Division probably.

But since Cert probably created the Premier League with bands like Genesis, Jethro Tull and Gentle Giant in mind, bands that have enough, erm, Scottish Division material (runs), Camel should join them in the Premier League.

Tastes are a very individual thing, and what is 'better' for you may be completely uninteresting for someone else.

That said, Camel are not even one of my favourite bands... I do enjoy their music and consider it good, but there are other bands I find more stimulating. So, as you can see, our takes on the subject are not that different... What I was objecting to is the way you're putting things. Unfortunately, no one can stop people from starting threads on this or that band... Telling them they don't understand anything about 'good' prog is not going to make them change their minds - on the contrary, it will only irritate them and possibly start a flame war.

Ghost rider I appreciate your wisdom and isight and I respect what you have writtenClap, I dop not want to start a war, but I get the same frustration whent someone praises Andy Latimar as I do when critics say punk was a revolution (as if),but you have reminded me of the civilty I should maintain on the threads, I have said my piece on previous posts and I won't say any more - as you said it irritates.Smile

do you really believe because someone appreciates certain bands, popular or obscure, that they need to be encouraged to discover 'the better prog out there' ?  That's highly presumptuous..

It's banal for you, which is perfectly legitimate. However, it is much less so to put other people's tastes down.

Besides, I can't really see the connection between Phil Collins and Camel. As a matter of fact, I loathe PC, while I quite like Camel, as I said in an earlier post. Though they may not be as ground-breaking as King Crimson or Gentle Giant, their music is undeniably valid.

I don't want to put your tastes down I want to encourage you to discover the better prog out there, and frankly I'm sick of Camel such an average band getting all the coverage while better prog is marginalised and better more original artists do not get the coverage they diserve, I want to encourage people to think carefully and realise why Camel were never considered a major prog force, of course I do not want to spoil your enjoyment, but really Camel should not have any albums in the top 50 , lets leave that to the better prog groups who deserve it Wink.

Premier, for sure.
As a matter of fact, I'm listening to Pressure Point now. It's one of the few albums that keep spinning EVERY MONTH after all these years.

What, well I think Camel made all their records great. Something that most of the best bands couldn't do. They're obvious premier league for me.
