Is anybody here, seen (Gabriel era) Genesis live?
I think there are many on this forum who saw Genesis live before 1976.  I saw them at the Reading Festival in 1971 and 1972, at the Oval in 1972 and on the Selling England and Lamb Lies Down tours.

To me there is no contest here.  Of the 13 albums produced by these two bands before 1975 I would rank them as follows:
1. Lamb Lies Down on Broadway
2. Court of the Crimson King
3. Selling England By the Pound  =
   Foxtrot
5. Nursery Cryme
6. Wake of Poseidon
7. Trespass
8. Lizard
9. Starless =
    Islands
11. Larks Tongues
12. Red
12. Genesis to Revelation

Genesis started average but got better and better with each album until they produced one of the greatest albums ever.

King Crimson started with one of the greatest albums ever but each successive album was not quite so good.

The music is rubbish.

OY, such nonsense people try to pass off as logic these days.

I´ve meant that I dislike Wagner´s music due to its pomp and pretentiousness especially. The unexceptionable fact about his anti-semitism only confirms my belief but it´s not the main reason.

His music isn´t rubbish but not my cup of tea.
A prog rocker who dont like "pomp and pretentiousness " wooooow! I think your on the wrong forum, go and listen to your unpretentious punk rock then or something... Wink
I seriusly never understod why pomp and pretentiousness is so bad in music, in all other arts its fine but in music its a crime, music must be simpel and easy obviusly and a big laugh, damn thos musicians that take em self to seriusly!

Well. Let´s say Wagner is TOO POMP AND PRETENTIOUSNESS  for me. Like Epitaph power of ten.Wink

Approve(Only ITWOP is a little behind, because I think it only repeats the themes of ITCOTCK).

Clap Well stated. I like Genesis too, but I love King Crimson. Genesis songs always seemed to be a compilation of catchy tunes strung together into a long song (albeit with some great lyrics) and while they were pleasant and beautiful to hear, they sounded the same every time. King Crimson songs seemed more sophisticated; music that was not catchy but moving, and grew on me slowly until I craved it. For me, it's like comparing Copeland to Bach. Wink

Wow!
i though I was the only one who felt that way about Genesis!!

But  progressivenes itself isn't very important   feature ! It says nothing about a Music . For example, Wagner is more "prog" than Tchaikovsky but we all understand who is better composer Wink .

Wagner by a considerable distance.
Obviously Wagner by miles and miles.
Obviously Tchaikovsky by light year. I like his Slavonic feeling and congenial tunes.
On the other way, Wagner was anti-Semite incidentally. And his compositions sounds very pompously even large to me.

I thought that had been sorted out before the Gen V Yes poll? Shocked

In which case shouldn't we have another poll (Number 12 I believeSleepy )

Don't think so. It was discovered around the same time.

The genesis v Yes v PFM poll may have more accurate numbers.

Can't vote anymore until you have 40 posts because people were skewing the polls with multiple accounts. I'm one post away now!

And after the great live footage of Genesis above, I'd like to add for equality:

Wagner's writings on race and his antisemitism[171] reflected some trends of thought in Germany during the 19th century.

I wasn't denying it.
