^ I don't think the gtfo is out yet so I can't vote, but it can't be less reliable than the iPod.

^ I think most manufacturers have given up on microdrives over solid state flash for all players under 16Gb. Anything over that is going to be 1.8" or 2.5" hard disc.

I LOVE Zunes! Way better than iPods, in my opinion. They sound better, have solid-state hard drives (hence more reliable), live longer, have a better interface, and the marketplace is way better that what apple has for their players.
This all opinion, of course, but I think Zunes get a bad rap for no reason. It's funny as hell to me how Mac computers get slayed by most people, yet iPods are loved by everyone, even if they hate Apple products. |

...reflects what you get ... with a bit of margin for being the only 250G media player available (and for being French probably ). Of all those I looked at the Archos is the only one you can actually watch a movie on with any degree of comfort - as a mp3 player it's an over-kill.

I'm very happy with my 8GB Creative Zen X-Fi. 250GB sounds tempting, but the price tag ...

Wow, I might have to trade in my iPod. Looks like this now supports OGG/FLAC as well, and is Linux compatible. Hmm... |

Here's a comparison of all the latest portable multi-media players: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_portable_media_players
..looking at that the Zune wouldn't be my first or second choice... 4 hours battery life - what the hell is it powering?

the iPlod's 40G harddisc was temperamental and unreliable, so I removed it and replaced it with a 4G flash drive - the smaller drive can't hold my collection but it is useful for using in the car if I pre-load it with stuff I want to hear.

Are you still hanging on to the iPlod for supplemental use? Have not heard or the Archos before.

Having had a 4th Gen iPlod for many years, I've changed over to an Archos 5 - it's a brilliant little box that can plug into my AV system, playback video and record programmes straight to its 250Gb hard disc; it's also wifi enabled and can stream from my PC and the interweb and has a USB I/F for playing stuff of USB sticks. The PC interface is as easy as pie and doesn't lock me into any proprietry software like iTunes. |
