That's not true. In most cases there aren't near as many collab reviews as regular members. The weighting is heavier, but not to the point where other reviews have no significance. My review of "Foxtrot" would hardly effect the rating at all. Besides, you review albums because you want to, not for the rating.

I somewhat agree with that, personally I would only distinguish between ratings with or without review.
the fact that Collab reviews are displayed at the top of the list of reviews is distinguishing enough, certainly since most people go by reviews rather than ratings anyway.

In general my opinion weighs heavier than others opinions, so there you have it.
from my understanding a rating without a review weighs less than a rating with a review, and collaborators ratings weigh a little more also, which may seem a bit unfair, but that's because life isn't fair.

The answer is, don't trust ratings. Trust what you like.

The "technicians" here can give the best answer, but what I know myself is that, instead of the very simple average, PA follows an algorithm by which normal reviews are counted as 1, Prog Reviewers' reviews are counted as 3 and Special Collaborators' reviews as 10 (or is it the rates without ratings that are 1, the normal reviews that are 3 and the PR/SC that are 10?).

I always assumed it was a simple average of the votes ie. (# of 5 star votes x 5 + # of 4 star votes x 4 +...+ # of 1 star votes x 1) / total number of votes
but then i noticed on the review for the Black Sabbath reunion DVD that its 1.09 rating does not = (1 vote x 2 stars + 1 vote x 1 star) / 2 votes = 1.5 stars.
i also checked out that Jean Luc ponty album today and calculated ( 1 vote x 5 stars + 4 votes x 4stars+ 1 vote x 3 stars + 1 vote x 2 stars) / 7 total votes yields 3.71 stars
I also calculated the rating for a few albums with hundreds of votes and got the same value as the rank on PA so there has to be a weighting system for each star value such that the rank converges to a simple average as the sample size (number of votes) increases.
So then i decided to figure out these weights and found a lot of inconsistencies. For example: The band Maad has one album, and its rating is 3.09 stars. It has 1 4star vote and 1 3star vote. Now any other band on PA with 1 4star vote and 1 3star vote should have the same ranking right? well no, a lot of them don't, for example the band Kaamos' album 'deeds and talks' has 3.77 rating with 1 4star vote and 1 3star vote. I solved like 30 linear systems of equations to get weight values for 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 star votes, and the values were not consistent at all. So what gives??? how am I supposed to trust these ratings when they are inconsistent???
