I`m not going to divide my vote into periods but I voted for Lark`s
Tongues In Aspic with Discipline a close second. The two albums
coincidently kicked off the 2nd and 3rd King Crimson periods.

Overall I'm for In The Cour Of The Crimson King - maybe that's because this album was (with Dark Side Of The Moon) the 1st Progressive album in my experience (and collection too). After all this one is is one of the most revolutionary, the nicest record by King Crimson, also contains my two favorite single tracks by the band - the title one and Epitaph. Though Lizard, Lark's Tongues and Red are the very close 2nds... |

Havent heard anything from the last 10 years but ill have to say Red... listening to it extremely loud and in the dark is enough to change your life. Everything is perfect, except the silly jam which is still pretty good.

I can't chose a favorite...my most often played KC albums are Starless & Bible Black and Discipline, but my single favorite work is "Starless" from Red. I'd pick any of the three '2nd period' albums over any of the 1st period, although I find both Lizard and Islands unique and fascinating in their own right. I think all three of the Discipline-era albums are incredible, although sometimes I find it hard to listen to them due to the extremely 80s sound of the recordings (the slap bass on "Sleepless" still makes me cringe). And the Thrak period buried me; I like what I've heard but I haven't become as familiar with it yet. I don't think it will overshadow any of the earlier stuff in my mind, but after all- what could? |

right now it's exactly the result that should be expected when having a poll about king crimson-periods - a battle between 69, 73/74 and 80s (by which i mean discipline and not beat and ToaPP)

your classification of the king crimson periods is probably the best way to do it but my problem with this is that i love the album lizard so much more than the other albums of the court-period and i also think that it`s very difficult to compare albums like In the Court/Poseidon, Lizard or Islands because they are musically really totally different.
also: the 80s Crimson-period is also not just Discipline - (i don't like Beat and TOaPP too much) same with 90s Crimson i thought it would be interesting to make a poll with every Crimson album seperated |

Horribly tough call, but if I could only keep one Crimso album it would have to be Night Watch.

C'mon maani, the second period includes Lark's Tongues, Starless and Red. Beat is third period and Power/Construkction is fourth period.
Sticking with maani's system. 1st Court 2nd Lark's Tongues 3rd Discipline 4th Power
Overall: Lark's Tongues |

There are so many good albums, so I will have to decide by which one gets the most time in my CD player.
And the winner is....
LARK'S TONGUES IN ASPIC!!! |
