Can't believe someone voted for the even worse 'Twin Barrels Burning'.

I Like Argus. But the first album I heard was Number the Brave. What is a much heavier and direct album.
I can recomend that to any Wishbone Ash fan

I have always liked their first three LP's.
I also thought of, later on, that the Wishbone debut, was just as good as Dire Straits 'Sultans'.
(just an opinion mind you)

Since you asked for studio albums only it has to be Argus, although I first got into Wishbone Ash listening to Live Dates. It blew me away and I guess that's partly because of the songs from Argus presented live. Throw Down The Sword, Warrior, Blowin' Free and King Will Come - amazing stuff!

Argus, everthing just came together for them on that album, what can I say. Blowin' Free and Warrior are my two favorite songs by them.

Tough choice between "Pilgrimage" and "New England" for me. Due to the beautiful "By Candlelight" I went with "New England".

I voted for Argus too because it is more of a prog album, though I like all of their albums and they are consistant in their quality with the exception of Wonderful Stash, never could work out the philosophy behind that one. It is one of the few bands of whom I have a full discography, except their latest release Power of Eternity which I am trying to find. Definitely an underrated band. |

Argus, but I love all the first three albums. Didn't like the way they seemed to become a more generic mid-Atlantic rock band after that though.

The first album. My first exposure to the band - when Peel was pushing their music - the one which has consistency. And the album's long track Phoenix is a gem and not the overblown version heard on live albums. Problem with Argus and Pilgrimage is WA can't make their mind up whether to decent prog or decent AOR, so we get albums with both.

Argus, because there are no "boogie" tracks with names like Rock & Roll Widow or Jailbait!

One vote for Pilgramage, a much underrated album that gets overshadowed by Argus. It has a lot of tracks every bit as good - Vas Dis, title track, Valediction, Lullabye and Alone. Love that twin lead guitar sound of Ted and Andy. It is partially spoilt though by two godawful 'boogie' tracks Jailbait and Where were you Tomorrow? From the Ash albums I've heard the first three are the strongest. After that they seemed to get less ambitious and more West Coast. |

Have to say I agree that I found 'Wishbone 4' something of a let down after the brilliance of 'Argus'. Other albums like 'There's The Rub' and 'Number The Brave' were somewhat weak too in my opinion. |
