im new here too but i absolutely love dream theater me and my dad own all their albums from when dream and day unite to octavarium. but if u like dt try bands like THREShold and OCI also` there are the dream theater spin offs like:

Madmen and sinners- with James labrie

Spocks beard- Mike portnoy

Transatlantic, Mullmuzzler, Liquid tension experiment etc.

If u like dt i guarantee u will enjoy these

thanks there!

tough luck living in lithuania, anyway it's good there are some albums available out there. But if everything else fails there is always buying stuff from the net. At first I was quite skeptical about it, I'm not fond of computers, but the few orders I've made they have been successful. At least from amazon.

About king crimson, i'm looking forward to buy an album, really. I even dreamt there was a king crimson movie!!. But first genesis album and rush's.

hey. ive been sucked into prog by dream theater myself. and damn... prog changed my life totally    im becoming a 21st century schizoid man because of the prog . and for the beginning i would reommend king crimson...they are ones of the best ive ever heard.. try their first album AT THE COURT OF THE CRIMSON KING. it is great though i dont think that its their best work unlike some people do my fav KC album would be (and IS) lizard. MASTERPIECE!! i dont have all DT albums too but im a maniac. as soon as i get some money i go to the record store to buy something that is made by those guys...id like to buy some more stuff made not only by DT, but its kinda hard to find something good here in lithuania... but at least weve got DT,PF,KC,some YES...seen two ELP albums.... i hope that some day DT would come to my country, but i doubt they would sell many tickets...not many people know Dt in lithuania...mostly musicians and few prog fans (its kinda hard so find them,i wonder if there arent many of them or are they afraid of daylight ). anyway... WELCOME

Hello everyone!!!

So, I decided to create my topic after all, I kinda think people will stop posting here but it's a pain to remember where did you post every time!

As some of you already know I'm new to prog! I've known Pink Floyd for a while and I really like their music, but it is not the bottom line. I decided to explore into the regions of prog music when my cousin gave me a cd of Dream Theater, the finest prog metal music I've ever heard!(words from a very green rookie)I became a fan in no time. My favorite album is Metroplis part 2, favorite songs: wait for sleep(a moore masterpiece!), learning to live(awesome finale!), take the time(strange thoughts), innocence faded (labrie's vocals at his best!), scarred(you can dance with this song), hell's kitchen(best instrumental piece I've heard), home(where we belong),octavarium(why don't you like it?!). My favorite band members are Labrie and Moore, though all the other guys are cool.

I've never seen them live, but they are coming to my country(Mexico) this march!!FINALLY!! So I hope to be on the front row.

I do not own all their albums yet because I want to buy other albums as well. Besides, it's kinda cool to think there are still many songs i do not know out there, waiting for my mind!

Nevertheless I crave for their b-sides and rarities! I own only a couple of 'em and there are a whole bunch, so I guess I will wait to buy their bootlegs through the net, since I don't download music(not because I don't want to, my computer sucks!)

Anyway, I wish for everyone at this site, or at least a few, to suggest new horizons for me, since I'm new to prog and open to anything! However, I wanna start with the basics, classic ones.

My top ten for beginners are(without DT and PF and disregard of order): Rush, Yes, King Crimson, Genesis, EMerson Lake and Palmer, Jethro Tull, Marillion, Frank Zappa, Porcupine Tree and Dali's Dilemma. Well, the last two aren't classics or must-buys but I'm lookin forward to them! What do you think?Should I reconsider the list? Am I leaving a must-have behind? I really don't know, this is my point of view and I ask for help. My plan is to buy an album, a really good one but not the best, from each band. I already have a Yes one(the yes story) It is quite good! It is a recopilation , I don't know if the other musicians are guests or were once in the group(Jemma Wakeman, Billy Sherwood) Help. I 'm in love with Tron Thomi, it is simply moving!

Well, that's the gist of it. Hope we can help ourselves! Thanks!
