Strange comparison:
- Dream Theater: 100% Prog Metal band that could be placed nowhere else.
- Porcupine Tree; Mainly Neo Psychedelia band that defies any real categorization.
Compare Dream Theater with Symphony X or the hundreed of Prog Metal bands that have been added.
Or Porcupine Tree with Hawkwind, Pink Floyd, etc.
This is absurd.

Not so absurd; they're both pretty much the most popular prog bands
right now, which is why people like to compare them. What is absurd is
4 of these polls at once. |
That is was.... would like to know who was responsible for that little stunt

Porcupine Tree by a mile. Also, I like Steve Wilson's voice better than James LaBrie's.

Absolutely DT. PT is the most horrible, sh*ttiest crap I've ever heard. (Pop and R 'n' B not included, mind you)

Two very different bands imho. Anyway I chose PT because I prefer the bulk of their work over most of what DT has done.

Dream Theater. Period. PT is just beginning a new era, they weren't exactly prog at the beginning.

It's still debatable whether or not they are prog now. Personally I don't see In Abstentia or Deadwing as progressive masterpieces.

Strange comparision, I agree.
DT and its members know how to jerk off the instruments, technically, while I find a lot more depth and thought behind Steven Wilsoin's arragements. It's common to fans of DT that they also listen to PT and vice versa - still, they shouldn't be compared musically really.

First, can not compare apples with grapes, then it's hard to give an objective opinion. A prog metal band v/s a Psychodelic one.
But, I think PT is the greatest band nowadays, they are a bunch of creative and great musicians. Steve Wilson has become a kind of modern Roger Waters. Every PT album offers something different.
DT....really dislike them. One of the worst and overrated bands around IMO. Couple of good musicians though.
No comparison, the greatest actual band (PT) v/s one of the most overrated and terrible bands ever (DT)

Dream Theater OF COURSE!
Amazing Group with talents. They are able to stand out in their own
individual instruments while playing it as a whole... Mood is perfect
for me... lol.. Preference i would say...

Dream Theater are very good but PT just have the edge in pure listening enjoyment. I don't think bands have to be in the same genre to qualify for a poll.
