Yes, it's mostly men in prog. It's also mostly men in electronic, jam band, post-rock, fusion, metal (all forms) and jazz. It's not like prog is the only genre that is mostly men.

Brandi Wynne, a bass player for the Ozric Tentacles, honed her
craft through the Music Synthesis Studies program at Berklee College of
Music. Her vibrant energy contributes significantly to this legendary
trippy band's distinctive spacey sound, making her a standout musician
in their lineup. |

Virtuoso classically trained violinist Siobhán Cronin (Trans-Siberian Orchestra, STARSET, Wynwood Trio) deserves inclusion. Here she is flawlessly enacting Jean-Luc Ponty's role in "New Country," alongside young 6-string wiz Angel Vivaldi and prog guitar royal Steve Morse.

Emanuela Vedana's vocals haunt Melting Clock's Sophmore album "Altrove". Altrove is a top-five 2024 album...for me. Edited by omphaloskepsis - October 05 2024 at 05:01 |

The sound of Art Deco's debut album reminded me of British neo-prog
from the 1980s, yet with female vocals. They performed in their native
Finnish, which suits the music remarkably well. The vocals delivered by
Jaana Mäkinen are absolutely breathtaking; she is an extraordinarily
powerful female singer. |

Mary Fahl from October Project. While some folks may question October Project's prog credentials, there is no question regarding Ms. Fall's vocal abilities. Highly recommended.

American guitarist Sarah Longfield plays for the instrumental prog
metal group The Fine Constant, and she does that majestically. However,
I think her solo songs, in which she appears as a multiinstrumentalist
and singer, are even more beautiful. For instance, this song, "Cranial
Metropolis," where Longfield plays drums as well, is really amazing. Or "Cycles," a tune that may display even more of her skill as a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. |

In this 1993 live footage, which featured a top-notch backup band,
the well-known Croatian singer Josipa Lisac, listed in the PA database
as a prog-related act, sings a jazz-rock song from her 1973 first LP,
which, in accordance to era, was full-blown prog; later, she switched to
pop-rock. |

Fulano is a Chilean jazz-rock band known for its complex, top-notch
compositions featuring female vocals delivered by Arlette Jequier, who
sometimes also played clarinet on the records. This is live footage from
1996. |

Courtney Swain blows my mind. Ingenious vocal lines. Solid keyboardist. But most of all, Courtney continues to grow as a composer. As good as she is now...her best is ahead of her.

Ex-Art Zoyd keyboarder Patricia Dallio has a considerable amount of solo work. Much of this is too progressive to count as prog rock though - it's more avantgarde electronic (where there are quite a few women around).
But how cool is this? And it's from 2024 apparently. |
