Hi,

In the past I have posted in there some, in the threads. I'm not sure I have ever done an album review (for example) for that website, although I could easily do 5 Rypdal albums, at least 5 Garbarek albums and at least 10 Gismonti albums, at least 2 Vasconcellos albums, a few Weber albums ... in other words, a lot of ECM stuff, probably the place that I am most comfortable with. Some of the other "famous" jazz labels, are not as strong for me, although it's really hard to not appreciate Coltrane, or so many other folks from the late 50's and then 60's, and of course, Miles.

I have a review of the special on Miles Davis and will post it ... as soon as I get it ready (it's on my website).

One of the best features in the threads is that there are not many "newbies" that just talk about their favorite band. And it is really nice to actually read from folks that appreciate music, very differently from the pop/rock style of things. I was thinking that no one in there (at least when I was about) ever worried about a top ten, and probably thought it was ridiculous anyway!
Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

I have to say that the new album feature is a fine one, John, and a jazz music archives idea which would be a very good one for PA to replicate. Certainly, this would be of far more interest than the 60,000th review of Selling England. Such a feature would restore much of the interest for our reviewing collabs in the wider progressive music world, artists especially.
Thanks Steve, we are very happy with our daily new album features, just put up two more, a modern abstract European album and some avant-garde sax work from Jon Raskin. There will be more coming today and every day. Sympathy is not needed or wanted folks.

Early this year I entered the jazz site with an intention to start reviewing albums there (soooo much of yet unreviewed stuff!!!!), but unfortunately I confronted some technical problem and couldn't write reviews. Undoubtedly I could have solved it, but then I gave up of the site altogether (fearing that reviewing albums there would eventually steal too much time from other writing). Back then I also intended to minimize my PA reviewing activity, which actually hasn't really happened. ;)

My impression of JMA was that there isn't enough reviewing going on. I sincerely hope it'll increase, and maybe I do join some day.

If you don´t know SuperMetro, M@X decided to create both Metal Music Archives and Jazz Music Archives, after Prog Archives became such a huge success. None of those sites are unfortunately as successful as Prog Archives, but both have a similar structure (with some exceptions), with collab teams evaluating new artists and trying to be the most comprehensive databases in their genre of music with flowing reviews on the frontpage like PA.

I agree, and have been wanting to start writing more jazz reviews.

I have seen a site like this one, but about Jazz. It seems pretty well made, but sadly, nobody seems to be using it. I thought it would be cool if some jazz fans and you other prog guys to enjoy this site too. http://www.jazzmusicarchives.com/
