I'm not really certain about where Queen really stands genre wise, I find the classification of prog to be very fuzzy and broad.
Queen certainly have songs that sound prog, The Prophets Song comes to mind.
But either way, they're such a unique and diverse band, I think prog would actually be too much of a limiting term for them, and they have a mass appeal that no other prog band has (save Pink Floyd, if you consider them prog)... More than anything they're just another band to pigeonhole into the art rock (or crossover prog or whatever you call it now) or prog related category along with Led Zeppelin and whatever.
I'd say they're good where they're at, listed as prog related on the archives, Steve Howe played on Inuendo afterall. But then again Howe has also played for Lou Reed.

that's generous. I've always seen their work as "Killer Queen" followed by a desolate failmine

Not prog at all except for all of two songs, and decent, but neither good nor bad.

I'd say a lot of their stuff up until News of The World had prog elements, and if its not prog its still progressive, which is not the same thing, of course.
And I love queen, every member knew how to write a good song, and they were excellent musicians with a unique sound.
My favorite albums from them are Sheer Heart Attack and Night at the Opera.

They are 'Prog Related'
I think the categorisation on this site is spot on with regard to Queen. They are not all out prog, but have made some albums/songs which have fused genres and styles and have elements of experimentation.
Whether you like them or not, I'm surprised you needed to ask...

Not 100 % Prog, and very very good up to and including the year 1978. After that they got less interesting, though still pretty good.

Not all particularly prog, though they have their moments. Don't care if they are or aren't included here. Mostly unexceptional (not bad, just not my thing, too many guitars and feeble harmonies), though they have their moments (Bohemian Rhapsody, Killer Queen, Who Wants To Live Forever, Innuendo are all great)

I'll keep this short and sweet:
1) Queen are the best rock band ever.
2) Their early albums (from Queen to A Day at the Races) fit my personal idea of Art-Rock, so I see no inconvinient in having them here.
