Yes v. Death - this is too funny. yeah. I LOL'd when that happened.
Soft Machine v. Zappa/M.O.I - tough call for me Zappa all the way!! Univers Zero v. Gong - UZ for me but I'm going to lose a favorite. Gong gets my vote, appreciate UZ, love Gong.
Return to Forever v. Radiohead - urgh I hope Radiohead can survive this. I hope so as well, but suppose enough of the anti (not prog) factions will vote against on principal.
Camel v. Diablo Swing Orchestra - talk about stylistic differences yeah almost to Yes-Death levels of differences. Easy vote there Pink Floyd v. Mike Oldfield - damn what did Oldfield do to deserve this fate? Someone was going to be doomed I suppose to draw Floyd.
Atheist v. Cynic - wow yeah. This was the other one (along with Camel's location in the bracket) that was tempted to ignore the shear randomness of, but decided again not to mess with the fate of the D&D dice, besides it will at least ensure more PM groups than DT and Opeth are assured to move on to the second round. I know nothing of the groups. I am going to sample two clips, the more interesting one IMO will get my vote.
King Crimson v. Can - nooooooo, CAN can't get flattened first round!! Upset special perhaps? They will have my vote at the very least.
Sigur Ros v. Henry Cow - two other personal favorites butting heads. HC all the way!
Magma v. Hawkwind - this sucks ass, not a good match up for Hawkwind BIG TIME SUCK ASSAGE.. I cried out loud when the dice gods allowed this matchup in the 1st round.
Dream Theater v. Caravan - will all the fanboys bludgeon Canterbury's finest? or will the ghosts of the old Symphonic team run roughshod over the DT fanboys and the group as they did years ago....

Saturday is when I'll start it and run them for a week.. I haven't decided to do all 32 at once or do the first half one week the second half the next. Likely I'll split the first round into 2 1 week halves. I can't see flooding the polls section with 32 polls all at once.

hah. Nearfest... one song caught the attention of.. a lover of tuneless wacky barely listenable avant music a damned Genesis fan a passionate K.C fan and a massive fan of Willie Nelson it is the first band I'd recommend to 'non fans' of prog metal. One that simply appeals to lovers of music. sh*t is seriously off the chart good and interesting as all hell.

At least one humble vote for Le Orme please, as this is a lost battle obviously, or aren't their opponents the most popular canadian band?

As long as the funky Camel is in it, it's a good tournament. Looking forward to it.

Tangerine Dream v. Supertramp Sigur Ros v. Henry Cow Magma v. Hawkwind Dream Theater v. Caravan

Magma and Hawkwind faced off once before at NEARfest 2007. Hawkwind suffered a crushing defeat and unless they can do something to change their game I expect a repeat this time around.

honest to god. I didn't fiddle with it one bit, completely random as they were picked. I was really tempted to shift Camel into ELP's half, but half the fun is picking on whovever knocks out ELP for the next.. however many years till we do this again. I don't see either winning their halves of that section, however I will be mobilizing the ELP army regardless
Some really great matchups. Should be a hoot!!!

Ah, the dice are kind. Worked out great!
