What I am embarrassed by is how I used to be a kind of a fan boi, giving 5-stars to many albums that hardly deserved that. Thus recently I had to reconsider almost all of my old ratings. Not when I listen to that stuff I have to ask myself, "did I really consider this piece of trivia a top album?"

Technical proficiency isn't enough.
Jethro Tull suck balls. Only Genesis I can tolerate these days.
Never loved Yes.
Modern Prog bands are delusional.
Modern Prog fans are seemingly KKK members.

Please ban the f**k out of this account. I'm now into Funk and Soul more than Prog. Well after listening to twiddling keyboards and guitars with a ham act-orrr "interpreting" lyrics from the semi-illiterate, I thought it was about time I listened to music that made me feel ALIVE. Put a smile on my face. Put a spring in my step.

The only thing more tedious than UK Prog is UK Punk.
American music does seemingly beat European music. But not their "Art Rock".

I've more sense than money, so enjoy box set after overpriced box set of the junk you used to listen to being endlessly molested by Steve Wilson. And indeed moaning about "Aww, Steve Wilson has ruined it!!". One born every minute.

It's also 2021. The world has moved on. Shave off your silly beards and face the fact we've failed to make a better world.
I do feel like a b*****d making this post, but if I press the back button, I'd just be lying to myself and others.
Apologies for anyone who ever read my posts. But I am just so f**king done with this genre. And even if walking alone, as least I'm stepping towards a future.

Prog Rock? Prog SUCKS!!
And yet here you are ! Hmmm, the poster dost protest too much, methinks. Fair enough you hate the now and maybe got bored with the then, but that's about you, not the music. Prog doesn't suck anymore than your posts do.
Oh, wait...maybe I need to rethink this.
Thank you for supporting independently produced music

Same, though I won't call it embarrassing. Embarrassing is Yes reviews that go "this is, obviously, perfection, and who dares to disagree is a stinky loser". Besides, it is just a shame that people instead of reviewing new stuff for others prefer to write another classic album review, as if the previous 200 were not enough. But I digress.
By the way, I have like 5 friends aged around 25 who's into prog, and no one likes Yes.

My embarrassing secret is I couldn't get into Jethro Tull "Passion Play", Genesis "Lamb"  and Gentle Giant "Three friends" for about 25 years. I kinda liked them (being a huge fan of those bands) but not that much and couldn't get my head around them.  Only recently I have recognised them as masterpieces they truly are. This rediscovery of some sort made me very happy but, I'm ashame of myself for my previous ignorance.

I love both Rush and VDGG equally too.

My secret - I've never been a big fan of Yes, which is embarrassing when the No 1 album on a prog site is by Yes.

No embarrassing prog secrets....I listen to so much more music than just prog rock. I grew up on funk/R&B so I still listen to it and will never stop, the musicianship and writing is amazing. Maurice White, Prince, George Clinton, Boosty Collins, Verdine White are musical geniuses!!

I listen to Madonna, Diana Krall, Holly Cole, Sarah Vaughn, S'Norah Jones, Joss Stone because they are stellar vocalists and I can recognize their talent and not feel pressured by the prog masses to feel I'm weird.....Prog is weird.

Rush are my #1 all time band and I do listen to VdGG, so that argument is baseless.

Carry on.....

Same

I also haven't yet heard a Gentle Giant album. Hope to remedy that when I can afford to spend for pleasure again

I've never heard a jolly green Gentle Giant album either

Seeing as how you've enjoyed a lot of prog-band-gone-pop albums, you might be interested in their albums from 1977's The Missing Piece onwards.

Anyway embarrassing things, uh, I listen to quite a lot of drum & bass music.

Same here. I have a pretty big playlist on Spotify of pretty much every song I've enjoyed listening to, and it covers a lot of different genres: classic rock, almost all prog, blues and soul, jazz, country, grunge, punk, metal, etc. Sometimes I'll be in the mood for a specific genre, but often I just wanna listen to music and I don't really care what I get.

I have a no-guilt policy when it comes to listening to music. If you like whatever it is, fine, it is your ears and no one else's. You do not have to like or dislike anything no matter what people say. Express your opinion, but know that someone else has one just the opposite. If you do not like Prog, you can exit this site yourself at any time. If you are exploring Prog, this is a great site. If you already listen to Prog, you can get insights and suggestions for new directions in listening if you want them or you can celebrate your favorites on this site. I can listen to a symphony, followed by Kiss, followed by Genesis, followed by some Blues, followed by Tuvan throat singing, followed by three hours of Steve Roach, for example.
The world of sound is certainly capable of infinite variety and, were our sense developed, of infinite extensions. -- George Santayana, "The Sense of Beauty"

progressive metal is quite diverse, so what did you try listening to?
A lot of the music that gets listed under the genre. I admit there's a lot of musicianship and interesting passages, but ultimately, is not my cup of tea and doesn't fit my taste.

A lot of the music that gets listed under the genre. I admit some sounds interesting, with fine musicianship, but is not my cup of tea, and ultimately, doesn't really fit my taste.

Not EMBARRASSED about it in any way at all, but not a huge fan of VDGG.  And more importantly, as a Yes fan, I never really got TFTO and don't think I will at any point.  It's just not for me.

Me too, and it's nothing to be embarrassed about at all. The wonderful music of Burt Bacharach appeals to  Anyone Who Had a Heart and anyone who doesn't like his music can just Walk On By. Heart

An all time great composer, not embarrassing (but not a prog secret though).

Is Burt Bacharach prog?
Proto prog!? It's 60s music.
