Gentle Giant - Hate that name.

Tool -- That one too.

Can -- And that one.

GTR -- Geez, that's the best they could come up with?

Asia -- I never thougt it too hip to name yourself after a chunk of land.

Boston -- See Asia.

Kansas -- See Asia.

UK -- See Asia

Europe -- See Asia.

Van Der Graaf Generator -- Um ... okay.

The Flower Kings -- What the heck was Roine thinking about?

Atomic Rooster -- Not that bad, but not that great either.

U I Blue -- Whatever

And the Number One worst name is: Spock's Beard

Although I agree with some of your choices, 'weird' doesn't have to mean 'bad'.

"Marsupilami" are named after an animal from a French comic book series, "Spirou et Fantasio". It looks like a Jaguar with an extremely long tail and even made its way on a French stamp.

Camel and Can aren't really the most immaginative names I've heard, as well, I'd say.

I think Can is a very good name - it doesn't mean only the thing you store food in, but also "to be able to do something"; in Turkish it means "life" and "soul"; in Chinese - "feelings", "emotions" and "love". This multitude of positive meanings was the reason they adopted this name in the first place.

Probably except The Dayjob Orchestra all those names are great. Especially Godspeed You! Black Emperor.

The Flower Kings have by far the worst name...and they wonder why they have trouble attracting a wider audience?  Tool is also in this day and age a painful name for them to have chosen seeing as homosexuals are branded that through slang.  And c'mon, Pain of Salvation?  That's cringe-worthy as well.

I happen to think the Mars Volta is a good name; in an explanation (for those who don't know) the founders said volta is a word an Italian director used meaning constant change, and mars comes from both their obsession with sci-fi elements and as the god/ddess(? i forget which) of war...why not?

Note: I enjoy all these bands.

Yes, the name comes from that but I have to give my (I think) expert opinion on that. Let me explain: it's not that I'm an expert in male ejaculates (I only know about my own, at least since I was a teenager and did some competitions with friends), but that I'm a physiologist, with some expertise in reproductive physiology, and I can tell you for sure that the volume is very variable, but seldom bigger than 5 cc.
I'm sure if most of my male fellow forum members were given a 10cc container and asked to fill it they would be really scared after looking at its size. Oh, by the way, size doesn't really matters...

So yes, those might be the most stupid band names ever...

"Hatfield and the North" are named after a sign on the M1 motorway in England. I saw that sign myself.
