Much like a politician burying their past, I threw out all my old
"cringe tapes" and with good reason. The most horrid of the lot dated
from 1982 or so when I and my vocalist and bassplayer were hideously
drunk, irked that the drummer had missed a recording session to
spend time with his girlfriend, and in a fit of Frank Zappa inspired
drunken wrath proceeded to castigate the poor sod in what inevitably
became known as the "Zappa-esque Drunk Tape." 90 minutes of vodka
fueled angst that could ruin a carreer if ever discovered...
Vodka and music and angst all at the same time are dangerous, and should not mix. |

Me and four friends had a straight forward metal band called Spirit, back when I was 16. We thought we were good, but when I listen to our demo now, I understand how bad we wore. The demo containd 5 songs, two of witch was iron maiden covers. It was called Writings in the wall, and I played the guitar. You can hear me pretending to be Van Halen now and then.... The day I recorded bring Your Daughter was the first time I had ever used Floyd rose, and it shines through.

Haha, here's some old songs that I made into MP3s from an old tape. I'm in the middle of re-recording them with my band. Enjoy!
For some reason, the links won't work unless you cut and paste... Beams http://disqueue.dmusic.com/music/download/232336/.03898363 Future Progression http://disqueue.dmusic.com/music/download/232335/.ba7df1c8 I guess you could just go to http://disqueue.dmusic.com Edited by Gaston |

Thanks, Owl! I was beginning to think that "Virus" had put everyone off... I think my style is very different to Jay's, and yes, it is supposed to be funny - I think you're the first person to get that on first listen! I was into Lawnmower Death at the time... |

They're not old, but they're not exactly new either. My recorded collection consists basically of people messing around in a living room with a microphone in the middle of everyone, and the odd naff cover. Oh, and several songs taking the piss out of various things which I doubt anyone will find at all amusing

We don't want your organ on this forum
...seriously though - why not? If you write and play stuff, why not embarass yourself here? I've just dug out a tape from 1986 of a band I was in that played a kind of "FM Rock". The band was called "Under The Influence". Interestingly, the initials U.T.I. also stand for Urinary Tract Infection... Now that's embarrassing |

Fresh tapes would do also. I don't have any, I only play organ, no need to record that, and I think it would be inapropriate to issue that on this forum |

I might have known you wouldn't "get" it... But thanks for the... imaginative comments everyone else This 'ere's called "Josh the Mosh" why? Because that's what it's called Click the Mosh Pit to get the track - within 7 days of the date of this post. Beware of the bass solo... For the record, Jay does lead guitars and vox, Tim (aged 16) does rhythm, and Rob (aged 17) beats the skins. No more until I hear some of my fellow members old tapes... Edited by Certif1ed |

I honestly can't hear anything bad about the bass part - it's no Watchtower bassline by any stretch of the imagination but it doesn't sound out of place or anything. The sound's not terrible for a thrash demo, either, although the cymbal sounds at the beginning are a bit naff. Six months ago when I was more into oldschool thrash than recently I'd probably have dug this.
edit: nice vocals about two minutes in - "YEURGH!" Edited by goose |
