Yep, Cynic should be up there, as should be Opeth and Gordian Knot.

But since they're not, guess who I'm voting for

Had to vote for Queensryche.  Rage for Order through Promised Land contains some of the best metal music you can find. I can hardly wait to see them live in June with Judas Priest.
And I am not frightened of dying, any time will do, I
don't mind. Why should I be frightened of dying?
There's no reason for it, you've gotta go sometime.
I never said I was frightened of dying.

Voted for Dream Theater. Queensryche have lost the plot over the last few
albums.

Better title for this list would've been

sh*tE
Oh, yes. To answer the question I would side with Dream Theater for the best prog-metal band. Although yes, PAIN OF SALVATION is the best group on the planet, lumping them in a prog-metal category is debasing the purpose of everything they've done thus far.

Peace & take care

Who the hell is Dream Theatre

Anyway, I was ultimately split between DT, Symphony X, and Queensryche. I ended up selecting Dream Theater just because Queensryche started doing a lot of very mundane stuff after they really broke through in the early 90s (Operation: Mindcrime is a masterpiece nonetheless), and because I still haven't heard enough Symphony X to make a proper decision- none of the record stores around here have anything resembling a decent selection and there are maybe five good torrents of their albums on the Internet.

I voted for Dream Theatre. Is this poll some kind of joke because half of these bands are not even Progressive like Children of Boredom and Demon Burger.

dude are you serious with this poll?? Dimmu Borgir are black metal (posers), Nightwish are pop-metal, Children of Bodom are power with black vocals and Yngwie Maelmstein is a virtuoso guitar player.

Of cousre best prog band in these is Pain of Salvation.

I voted for Queesnryche.

P.S. Watchtower are f.ucking awsome!
