I know SMM less. Mainly because it so hard to get their albums here.
I voted for VDGG cause they are realy great but with a lot of sympathy to SMM which are lovely.
I second those who cries for Can's loss and also surprised to see Gong lost to Area (although Area are realy cool). I probably should have joined these battles.

Tough decision, but I went with VDGG.

Before I get lynched by other members of the RIO/Zeuhl team, I should explain that I based that solely on SMM vs VDGG; if the poll had included ZMM and Von Zamla (and indeed Van Der Graaf, as they became for Pleasure Dome/Quiet Zone) my vote would have gone the other way.

Yikes, I was hoping for not THIS much of a blowout.

Looks like VDGG are still going strong!

That's because Can lost to a more innovative band.Wink
More innovative or more actual??

Oh, did I say innovative? I meant more innovative AND more awesome. And no, that's not subjective at all.LOL

I would vote for SMM against most bands.

Sadly, they are up against my favorite.

RIP in bossa nova heaven.

With Samla Mamma Manna, it reformed/ renamed (and there were line-up changes) as Zamla Mammaz Manna and Von Zamla, so there's plenty of material.

SAMLA MAMMAS MANNA Albums

1971
Samla Mammas Manna
4.31
(15 ratings)

1973
Måltid
4.45
(33 ratings)

1974
Klossa Knapitatet
4.19
(26 ratings)

1976
Snorungarnas Symfoni (Symphony of the Brats)
4.13
(10 ratings)

1999
Kaka
3.96
(8 ratings)

2002
Dear Mamma
3.00
(4 ratings)

ZAMLA MAMMAZ MANNA Albums

1977
För Äldre Nybegynnare
3.11
(7 ratings)

1978
Sclagerns Mystik
3.47
(9 ratings)

1980
Familjesprickor (Family Cracks)
4.30
(20 ratings)

VON ZAMLA Albums

1982
Zamlaranamma
3.61
(9 ratings)

1983
No Make Up!

Familjesprickor is my particular favourite of the SMM/ZMM/VZ albums.

Quite an easy one - VdGG for me. Quite a few excellent albums, and some 'killer' tracks like Plague and Man Erg and many others.  I was impressed by Maltid, but the shher volume of quality works by VdGG wins it hands down!

VDGG!!

And it would've been awesome if Can had upset two of my least favorite bands of all time, but oh well!
