Sounds like a good forum to me.

Porter, to discuss reviews on prog albums is one of the key aspects of the forum of this site.

ok, I think you're perfectly right, but I didn't say "don't discuss". I just say, don't let your life be ruined by a review, which is pretty different. I was PRO Lovecraft, not against him. I only found his reaction to the review a bit too excited...that's all. And I didn't mean to cause such a mess!!! I'm sorry, really.

PEACE TO ALL.

....and...let's keep on discussing!!!!

Oh, silly me, I was thinking this was a forum for discussion and the expressing of opinion. Obviously only some opinions count in your brave new world.

what are we talking about? I just said, take it easy man, if the guy doesn't think that ITCOTCK is prog, well, does it affect your life in any way? I hope not. And, since YOU say that this is a place for discussion and expressing opinions, he has his opinion, you have yours, I have mine, and so on. I don't see the problem, really. Anyway, I was not criticising your rant, which is understandable, I was just suggesting you not to give too much importance to such things.

I just wonder if he has been listening to the same album I have been...'mostly boring jams' and describing 21st CSM as a 'bluesy jam'...all opinions aside, he is somewhat inaccurate to say the least.

But, despite the musical snob within me, I certainly would not want to stifle any expressing of opinion on his part

Though I think a damn good thrashing may be in order, just to set him straight, y'know

I agree with him in some respects. It is terribly dated and (IMO) very overrated. It wouldn't make my top 100 prog albums.

It's prog but not very good prog. Moonchild is one of the worst things I've ever heard on record. Only Epitaph and the title track do anything for me, which is why I gave it a rating of 3*.

Sorry, we are entitled to have opinions contrary to the mainstream, you know.

"Royal Jelly's" counter review (posted less than five hours after the original: good reflexes there) balances the critical scales nicely, I thought. Hats off to a well-reasoned, well-written commentary, one of the best and most succinct I've yet read about an album sometimes suffering from ill-considered overexpose. And the Bruford quote is worth remembering for fans who insist their favorite bands play the same old songs again and again...

By the way, my 13-year old son dragged me to see the the latest Star Wars movie (again) last night, and I now realize the truth: George Bush is in fact a Sith Lord .

Saying ITCCK is not progressive is like saying that the Beatles were not
Brit-Pop. Probably a compliment, really.

Yeah, by doing such a review as he did it was to me obvious that such things could came out of his head.

I was thinking, is this reviewer kidding or what but then it was the thread creator itself

I agree with many that although this is a groundbreaking recording it si outdated and definitely does not deserve the place in the standings where it is. Much of this album is just boring jams from the musicians. That said it also has two of my all time favorites on it. 21st Century Scizoid man is a great bluesy based jam, not too proggy though I feel. Same with Elp's knife edge by the way which is a very awesome tune, but still not prog to me. Anyway thje other is I talk to the Wind. Something has always kind of drawn me to that one. It getsin my headand stays there... Anyway a good album but not really prog to me.

Ah yes, Epitaph and the title track, well known 'boring jams' with no compositional input at all. Possibly the least prog album I know. Oh, and I forgot to mention:

a) Hitler is no longer considered a bad man
b) black is now white
c) Ayreon has a spark of originality
d) ELP are subtle
e) George Bush is a communist

Aha... I thought this all was his review...

LOL at myself!

But I still get the point...

That one with Hitler was amazing

What a freak... I'm scared of such people, real deal psychopaths

a) The worst statement ever, That bastard will always be considered a bad man, he was like satan damn it!

b) what? are you colourblind? If this is about humans then some people think that the colour of your skin matters (these are the ones without a brain though...) "black is now white"...

c) Ayreon... LOL... I've heard that crap... spark? where and how? change that word to "lack" instead.

d) ELP are subtle?  I must say I love some of their early albums and it's great in all matters... but subtle ain't the word... next please!

e) No Comment.
