Primus.

I am a huge Primus fan.  I've been in many discussions about Primus being considered prog or not.  A lot of sites mention Primus being proggy because of their influences.  Same goes with other Les Claypool projects like Oysterhead and the Frog Brigade.

If you've heard a decent amount of Primus what do you think?  I say yes, because a lot of Primus is wacky like Mr. Bungle (prog), complex like King Crimson (prog), and improvisational like Mahavishnu (prog).  allmusic lists their influences as Frank Zappa, Rush, Beefheart, Crimson,Tony Levin, Peter Gabriel... I can hear each.

And if a decent amount of us agree on this, Primus should be inducted into the site.  I can provide the bio and some songs.

People have said that Primus should be considered prog for being Fusion alone.

Define 'Fusion' - once this meant 'Jazz Rock Fusion', which as devote Primus fan, I know they  rarely touch on. But having just read on Amazon.UK about Dave Matthews being 'Fusion', I get to wonder if somebody has yet again been screwing with musical terminology yet again, as with R'n'B or indeed  frequently with the term progressive rock here?

Prog-influenced definetely, I'd say they're one of the mest creative current bands in music definetely.

I concur wholeheartedly! Haha Claypool is possibly one of the most amazing virtuosic bassists in the history of the planet, and he knows what he's at. He can play technically he's worked with Danny Carey and Adrian Belew. So even if Primus don't inducted i really think Les should. He's very creative, sometimes not overly technical, but Prog doesn't require that. So i think Yes Claypool should, I'm not sure about Primus though..

I've only heard a couple of Primus LPs and really dug them, even if they get a bit silly at times.  I own and love the Primus EP "Sailing the Seas of Cheese"....their influences are obvious from their excellent cover versions of "Intruder" and "Have a Cigar".....are they "prog"?  Hell, if Styx, Rush and Kansas are considered progressive than Primus should be considered avant-garde!

And, yeah, Chris Squire definitely had an influence on Les....Great Taste/Les Claypool!

Spent an evening listening to Les Claypool with and without Primus - Les is Les, so please give the clue to  the Squire connection - Flea maybe..........
