Just been listening to American Soldier and think itīs a giant leap up from Mindcrime 2, the guitar solos are well thought out and the whole atmosphere of the concept is so  more real, one feels as if if they are actually in the war zone

Which one do you prefer?

I have really enjoyed American Soldier. OM2 is OK but not that good.

Actualy both are prety mediocre in comparation with older stuff, not realy bad but kinda usual to my ears. Anyway, American soldier is a little  better than the forgetable Mindcrime 2. They will never, and I mean never release an album like Operation Mindcrime - -1988.

Tough to ever come close to anything like Operation:Mindcrime (one of my all-time favorite albums). OM 2 had a few good tracks and I do prefer it to American Soldier, but sadly think still lacking compared to earlier endeavours.

American Soldier, no contest. Mindcrime 2 was a pretty big disappointment, and Soldier is a great return to form

I actually enjoyed Operation Mindcrime 2.  I liked the continuation of the story.  However, Amercian Soldier is absolutely amazing.  It is such an emotional album.  The father/child duet on Home Again is just absolutely beautiful and I think captures the life of a soldier away from home as absolutely perfect as possible.

I listened to American Soldier again, and liked it more than at first. Never really listened to Mindcrime 2.

i agree with all the above statements..mindcrime 2 has no catchy songs as MK1 had  but soldier def has a few catchy tunes...i dig the saxaphone being used  just like promised land had a few parts w/ sax..not many metal bands use sax for effect....

^ I would have to agree on that...

OM2 is ok, no more than 3 stars from the few listens I got

I have not heard AS yet but I find the ballad very cheesy and ordinary (even though it represents an indeed true story)
