Topic: Trains or Arriving Somewhere But Not Here Posted: November 09 2008 at 01:38 |
I know people get tired of Porcupine Tree polls, there have been so many. I've been listening to a lot of "live" PT lately and these two songs are clearly two concert favourites.
Please choose between these two songs, then tell us what your all time favourite Porcupine tree song is.

Normally this would be a tough poll for me, since you have the absolutely serene "Trains" in there, but...
"Arriving Somewhere... but Not Here" remains to be my ultimate,
favorite Porcupine Tree song ever. It's brilliant in oh so many ways.
I've noticed that even the people who think that Deadwing was a step in
the wrong direction seem to like that track. My favorite PT track from
my favorite PT album.

Though both are great songs, neither strike me as anything that special. Trains gets the vote. My favorite from them? Maybe Anesthetize.

'Arriving somewhere..' is more 'prog' but Trains remains one of my top PT songs, and gets my vote in this poll. I tink the band are pretty fed up with the song now, but the fans always wanna hear it live. It's a brilliantly crafted, yet fairly simple song.

Of those two definitly "Arriving...". "Trains" seems to be suffering from the "Wish You Were Here" syndrome - it has so much overexposion that it's getting enauseating.
I'm a bit torn as to which is my favorite PT song, but it's either Voyage 34 Phase 1 or Voyage 34 Phase 2.

Seeing them live a little over a year ago with everyone in the audience doing the clapping during the appropriate sequence on "Trains" is a cool memory that elevated that song forever in my mind. But I have to go with the title track to "Fear of a Blank Planet" for my all-time favorite for now (at least until the new album comes out hopefully next year).

I'm hard-pressed to think of a favorite. "Deadwing" might be it, but I love both poll choices. No vote from me.
Well...maybe "Trains." Fun to sing and play.

I really like some of their earlier songs like "Starsdie" and "Waiting",although "Arriving somewhere..." is up there with "Blackest Eyes" as far as more modern ones go.

They're probably my two favorite PT songs, but Trains is my clear favorite.

Trains is my second favorite song of all time. Just seeing the title of this thread was enough so that I had to listen to it right away. Trains, without a doubt.

Hey, speaking of favorite songs, how is it going with the Insane song list from way back? I sure would like to know how the results turn out.

Slowly but surely. College is a lot of work, as is maintaining a social life.

As far as the live versions I like Arriving somewhere more, because trains, in my opinion, is missing some of the atmospheres it has on In Absentia. The studioversion of trains I find outstanding. My fave PT songs al time I can't chose between Futile and Way Out of Here. My favourite live track is The Sky Moves Sideways as they played it in Amsterdam december 5th 2007. Masterful
