Define "progressive rock".
NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO... only joking.
The discussion about who to include and exclude has been going on since the start of the forums, guys.
I can understand your frustration, but I think the site owners (plus the moderator, maani), are particularly interested in hearing opinions at this moment because of the impending 'revamp' of the site. So perhaps you'll have to be patient for just a little while longer.

Nothing wrong with suggesting a band for addition to the archives, but goose is right suggestions is the place.
Leave the main disucussion area for other topics.

Guess my Artcane plea is ill-timed? But in my defense: 1) they are 100% total prog, and 2) they are not my band. I was 8 when they released their album!
But no, I don't think threads about adding bands is getting old. It's interesting to see what definitions and parameters we all have regarding prog. And it certainly creates for more interesting dialogue than some questionable threads that have crept onto this board.

The general discussion forum is for discussing whatever we like about music. There needs to be discussions about bands and that includes non prog bands as well as prog bands. And if necessary we should debate whether the 'non prog' bands could qualify as prog. Can't see the harm.

well put!
This is more what I was going for... if people want to suggest bands,
alright I can't stop that and I wouldn't want to, but they clutter the
main discussions forum, they really do. Put them somewhere more
appropriate!

Yeah, I know, guess I'm just uptight about how NO ONE seems to care about Artcane. Well-known band, no, but prog as f**k? YES!
seriously, I will put all future suggestions in the appropriate suggestion box.

I can't stand those threads. I'm perfectly happy to let the Admin decide what they put in, so should you be.

It should be a democratic process. Everyone should have can have their
inquiries and such, but too many of the bands getting added to the site
are just not "prog."

But not everybody agrees on what is 'prog', that's the whole point. If you want to suggest a band, just suggest it to the admins (there is a way of doing that right?). The stupid poll threads always result in the same trivial arguments.

i'm bored with them - it's become a pantomime ('oh yes they are', 'oh no they aren't'). The discussions are not discussions they are playgrounds for a constant barrage of 'my band's more prog than yours' wittering. Let the powers that be decide. start a 'bands related to prog' forum and let whoever wants to discuss the prog value of some death metal band's opus because it's more than 4 minutes long go at it.

I think the 'Is x Prog?' threads should have a forum of their own - they seem to be killing the main discussions stone dead, plus you're never going to change the opinions of a bunch of die hard pedants.
