Browse throughout your collection, you'll see many newcomers, sometimes not from this decade. Mine changed so bad in a year.

My favorite discoveries in 2004 were:

Discipline-Unfolded like Staircase

Glass Hammer-Lex Rex

Arena-Contagion

Nektar-Tab in the Ocean

Riverside-Out of Myself

Gentle Giant DVD-Giant in The Box

My discoveries in 2004...have to be a lot I guess...
I will list a small selection:

  • The mars Volta (Prog in the 21st Century)
  • Far Corner (Great newcomer, great mixture of RIO, Zheul and Jazz)
  • Guapo - Five Suns (Wow, great Zheul)
  • The amber Light (newcomer band from germany, beautiful music, imagine a mixture of Talk Talk, Sigur Ros, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, early Genesis and some VdGG)
  • Liquid Scarlet (Awesome debut, if you like Anglagard, King Crimson or Anekdoten check it out)
  • Esbjörn Svensson Trio (Great jazz, very modern with slight folk influences)
  • Sigur Ros ()
  • Isildurs Bane (Underrated, a great band)
  • Riverside - Out of Myself (Well, magnificent)
  • After Crying
  • And Finally '7for4' ()

Discoveries for me:

1. Dream Theater

2. Allan Holdsworth

3. ELP

4. VdGG

I definately have to say that my favorite of this year was Dream Theater. Metal (certain groups. i.e. Metallica, Iron Maiden) have always had a special place with me. I saw them when they were opening for Yes, and they made an incredible impression on me.

ELP I've heard of prior to listening to them, I just never listened to them, what a mistake I made!

ProgArchives.com, of course!

Prog-wise, I think Hatfield and the North and P.F.M. were my main discoveries - just fantastic!

Before I joined, my collection of prog CDs was limited to little outside of Pink Floyd and Rush. now, my collection has almost quadrupled in size.

needless to say, this past year has been quite interesting for me. And, it's all thanks to...

I lived in a musical timewarp since Fish left Marillion.
In fact I couldnt even listen to Marillion (Fish era or not) until i discovered this site and reignited my passion for Prog Rock. Rush, Yes,Genesis, Elp &Floyd were my "main men" but I hadnt been taking it further any more-certainly not discovering new bands or taking risks buying classics by Tull,VDGG, or Gentle Giant that I had owned on vinyl.

My 2 main discoveries:

1.Porcupine Tree ( I now have every single album yet scarcely heard of them until last July)
2.Riverside-Out Of Myself is still on heavy rotation in my Cd Player.

But I have a massive playlist of "Various Prog" from this site that I listen to, in full, every fortnight at least.
Cheers Max!

Clap

my favorites over the last couple of years, dont find
much that moves me these days, so the rarity is
quite a find for me!

progish -
Bozzio Levin Stevens - Black Light Syndrome
Mermen - Amazing California Health and Happiness

others -
Larry Carlton - Sapphire Blue
Wynton Marsalis - Mr. Jelly, Lord

Action Figure Party - same
St. Germain - Tourist
were pretty good too, just a little to polished or
simple for my old ears.

Just today I discovered one of the greatest albums of 2004: Marbles

True, while it doesn't live up to Marillion's fish-era productions, but it is still an outstanding album. I would have to say, so far, it is one of the greatest releases of 2004.

2004 was my first year as a prog fan, so I basically discovered all of the prog bands i like this year (except for KC)... a short summary of that would be:

Yes, VDGG, ELP, Pink Floyd (i had heard of them before of course .... but i really got into their music this year), Soft Machine, Caravan, Colosseum (went to their concert), Eloy, ANGLAGARD !!!!!, CAMEL!!!!, Genesis, Rush

i also got into post-rock recently with those bands:

GY!BE, Explosions in the Sky, Mogwai, Tortoise

Great Year! Thanks to PROGARCHIVES, you made my music life so much more interesting and fascinating!

[X] best site ever!

Riverside - Out of Myself

Overhead - Zumanthum      (mp3 free download on official website, very good, somewhat comparable to riverside's album, maybe even better. There is a new album on the way if I'm not mistaken. )

IQ - Dark Matter

Kansas (knew 2 songs of them but didn't know they were any good besides that)

And The progarchives, which gave me more insight in what it is i like about, and like in music.

Long Live progarchives and M@x and all who contributes, Heep Heep Horray.

I'm always almost unlucky _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Id5ZcnjXSZaSMFMC Id5LM2q2jfqz3YxT
