a very jazzy year

My choices, but I will wait to see who needs my vote more.

Area - Crac!

Arti E Mestieri - Giro de Valzer per Domani

Etna - Etna

Nova - Blink

Perigeo - La Valle dei Templi
let's just stay above the moral melee
prefer the sink to the gutter
keep our sand-castle virtues
content to be a doer
as well as a thinker,
prefer lifting our pen
rather than un-sheath our sword

It was a toss up between the Banco, Libra, and PFM albums, and I voted for PFM Chocolate Kings, which I feel is their best album. It is pure emotion!
Btw, the English lyric first album version by Libra is simply called "Libra" and not "Words and Music" which would seem to  make sense as a direct translation of the first album title "Musica e Parole" (don't mean to nitpick)
I have been facebook friends with the lead guitar player of Libra for several years, Nicola di Staso, a very nice man. Asked him repeatedly about the possible issue of English lyric Libra albums onto cd, but he knows nothing about that (so far).
As others, I love hearing the original Italian lyrics whenever possible with Italian prog, but the Libra debut just sounds so amazing in English that it has become my version of choice...
Lead vocalist and rhythm guitar player for Libra, Federico D'Andrea, was run over by a car and killed in the fall of 1978! Such a senseless loss.

Thanks. There were three different titles to choose from for the Libra album, so I was a little bit confused, although that's nothing new at my age. Tongue

It's between:
Goblin - Profondo Rosso
Area - Crac!
...but I quite like these two as well:
Arti E Mestieri - Giro de Valzer per Domani
Perigeo - La Valle dei Templi

Goblin this time. An egg sack of sodium-placemat dualism.

As a hardcore Goblin fan, I'm compelled to throw Cherry Five a vote since it predates Profondo Rosso and features the nucleus of Simonetti, Pignatelli and Morante.

Apoteosi the best Italian album of any year
All I like is prog related bands beginning late 60's/early 70's. Their music from 1968 - 83 has the composition and sound which will never be beaten. Perfect blend of jazz, classical, folk and rock.

Crac! sans doute! One of the greatest jazz-rock fusion albums ever created--on any continent! Why this AREA lineup isn't mentioned in the same discussions with the Mahavishnu, Return To Forever, Herbie Hancock, Weather Report, Nucleus/Soft Machine, Miles Davis, Alan Holdsworth names and band members I cannot figure out!
