I agree with Equality.

I work with inner city folks ranging from welfare to guys sleeping under overpasses.

My great uncle is spending his retirement working in Roatan attempting to help with infrastructure.

No comparison, not even close.
You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

Uh, yes.
There are parts of big cities that seem to be from a developing country.
It's shameful.
Yes, but of not-so-bad parts of developing countries.

Yes, I do. Not invariably or indiscriminately, but over the years there have been homeless guys whose patch has been on my regular route to/from work, and I generally bung them a couple of quid once or twice a week. They may spend it on drink or drugs, but as the late lamented Bill Hicks pointed out, these things are extremely important if you happen to be an alcoholic or a drug addict, and who am I to judge?

I have also done some voluntary work with the homeless from time to time, usually in winter.

Not that it's particularly part of my rationale, but a lot of the homeless men on the streets of London are ex-forces; if the nation can afford to send them out to fight in conflicts of dubious legality, it should surely be able to offer some support when they come back.

I'd rather sing Dream Theater's "Home" to homeless people, to raise their morale.

I think I'd sing Peter Gabriel's Home Sweet Home.  I keep seeing drugs and alcohol mentioned.  What if they used the money for gambling or the lottery (also gambling)?  And wouldn't you be really pissed if they took your money and won something? LOL

A homeless person who won the lottery still can't have the kind of happy life that I have. Money can't buy my great appreciation of prog metal.

Now San Francisco has passed a law saying it is illegal to sit down or lie down during certain hours of the day and it is directed at the homeless and they can be fined for doing so, let's penalize the disadvantaged. Another ridiculous law from some "deep" thinker, and they are paying someone to come up with this sh*te, pathetic............................

I'm looking to sell, not to buy.

What exactly are the San Francisco police planning to fine a homeless person? Has this really been thought through?

Heard this one a while back:
-"Sir, could you spare me ten pence?"
-"Sorry, I've only got a 20 pound note."
-"Doesn't matter, I've got change."    LOL

I am not sure what the fine is but anything is usually more than can be had by a homeless person, this was being instituted to supposedly help  tourism,  evidently tourists do not like seeing the homeless.

I would say the law makes no sense, but things can hardly be a law and logically consistent it seems.

I would agree. I am sure san fran is facing all the problems urban areas are facing but on some level going after the homeless seems a cop out, these politicians sit around in their starched white shirts while the average joe has to work hard and stay just a half step away from being homeless. I was on my way to seattle the other day and stopped at a rest area and there were at least twenty cars which were obviously being lived in there.

Sometimes, but I see the same ones a lot. First up they have to be polite.  I new one sheila (Female) that used to tell everybody she had a disabled son and had to buy a train ticket to the country to get him home. One night she asked a bloke behind us, he replied, quite aggresive too. " You told me that last week, what the f**k, you lyin' bitch"LOL If bumming money ,remember your lies and previous bites.
Matt
